The Midwest Christian Education Expo returns Saturday, March 4, 2017, with private K-12 schools from across the Kansas City metropolitan area, and homeschooling organizations from both Kansas and Missouri. This is the 19th annual event and kicks off “Christian Education Week” in Kansas City where private faith-based education receives more attention than at any other time of the year. The event, which runs from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M., is held at Colonial Presbyterian Church, 9500 Wornall Rd., Kansas City, MO 64114. In addition, this year three open house events will be held across the metro just for parents looking at private schools in their local communities (See info below).
The free expo has become a huge draw for parents looking at educational options for their younger children and includes popular mini-seminars on topics such as a Parent Panel Discussion on private K-12 as well as Homeschooling 101: Where Do I Begin?

Area private K-12 schools (both protestant and Catholic) will be in attendance at both the expo and open houses, to answer any of your questions, show their curriculum, sports, fine arts opportunities and spiritual education. Homeschooling organizations from Missouri and Kansas will lead popular seminars and answer questions about state laws and local resources for support.
This year, special Christian K-12 Open Houses are scheduled for Jackson County/Lee’s Summit/Blue Springs (Monday, March 6 at the Gamber Center in Lee’s Summit), North of the River ( Tuesday, March 7 at the Gladstone Community Center) and Johnson County, Kan. (Thursday, March 9 at the Tomahawk Ridge Community Center in Overland Park). The Open Houses run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m and will feature K-12 schools and homeschooling resources and services. The Open Houses events are all free.
Christian Education Week was begun by the Metro Voice Christian Newspaper, that for 26 years has published an annual Christian Education Guide which is available in print and online.
“Private schooling is so important to the fabric of our society,” stated Anita Widaman, founder of the expo. “Millions of parents either send their children to private Christian schools or educate them at home because of their desire to find curriculum and programs that reflect their personal values.”
Widaman, who’s daughters both attended a Christian school, is thankful that they had an education that upheld the values they were being taught at home. “Public schools are not for everyone,” she said, “The ability for families to seek out and choose other options is important and we want to make that choice easier by providing a place where parents and educators can connect.”
In addition to the K-12 schools that will be present at the expo, Christian universities from across the nation will be present, talking with high school Juniors and Seniors about options for college. For more information not he college level, you can read about that HERE.
