Salvation Army Fan Drive Helps Needy Beat The Heat

Westlake Ace Hardware to team up with The Salvation Army in Kansas City to raise money for fans.

The temperature is on the rise and so is the Salvation Army’s need for fans. This summer, Westlake Ace Hardware has teamed up with the Kansas City Salvation Army to help collect money for fans. All money raised will be used to purchase fans the local charity will distribute this summer to low-income seniors, qualified families with children, and adults with disabilities.

Westlake Hardware is kicking off their “Salvation Army Fan Drive” with a donation of 100 box fans and local residents can do their part too:

• Through Aug 3, all Kansas City-area Westlake Hardware stores will collect donations to benefit the local Salvation Army.

• For every dollar raised during the two-week period, Westlake Hardware will purchase fans at cost for the Salvation Army so they will be able to provide even more fans to Kansas City residents when demand is the highest.

“Heat poses a very real danger to our elderly clients, families with young children and those with medical issues,” said Major Charles Smith, divisional commander for The Salvation Army Kansas City. “All the money raised will stay local and these box fans are critical to keeping those without air conditioning or who are on a fixed income, comfortable and safe during the hot summer months.”

“It’s very easy to help,” said Jason Henshaw, general manager of the Westport Westlake store.”Visit any local Westlake through Aug 3 and at the checkout counter, make a donation toward a fan in any chosen amount. For a $5 donation, one ‘fan blade’ can be given, $10 provides two ‘fan blades’, $15 for three blades or $20 for the entire fan.”

“Fans will be distributed by the Salvation Army to low-income seniors, qualified families with children, and adults with disabilities to help them beat the heat this August. For more information about eligibility, contact The Salvation Army in your area.”
