ROCKFORD, Ill. — Pastor and author, Tom Zobrist, the father of world series Cubs player and former Kansas City Royal Ben Zobrist, spoke at the Northern Illinois Fellowship of Christian Athlete’s annual banquet recently about training coaches and athletes in “Doing Sports in a Godly Way.”
Zobrist says all five of his kids went through the FCA program, which helped teach them about leadership and doing sports God’s way. The group’s goal is to 
see the world impacted for Jesus Christ through the influence of these coaches and athletes. Zobrist says kids in the program make friendships and relationships with coaches that last a lifetime.
“I think it’s very crucial for young people. They need some positive influence on their lives and so much of what they get is so negative now. To have a place in school where they can go and hear about the gospel of Jesus Christ and how he died for their sins, it’s just such a great program in the public schools. We’re very blessed to have it,” said Tom Zobrist, the guest speaker at the FCA banquet.
Zobrist has written a book The Zobrist Family: Look What God Can Do. Ben Zobrist wrote the forward to the book, in addition to contributing the title. He had once signed an autograph “From the Backyard to the World Series, Look What God Can Do,” and they thought that would be a good title for the book.
