Capital Grille keeps the ambiance and great food in new location

The holiday season is around the corner and for many people that means planning group events. With the opening of The Capital Grille in its new and expanded location on the Country Club Plaza last week, planning has just gotten easier.

The Capital Grille’s new home at 4760 Broadway Boulevard spans 15,126 square feet and has been designed with both the large and small dining parties in mind. Long an anchor on the Plaza’s West End, the new location, occupying the combined former spaces of Williams Sonoma and the Tesla showroom, offers higher visibility in fresh digs but patrons will recognize the restaurant’s classic architectural and atmospheric elements that have always made it special.

I had the pleasure of dining there for lunch and I was not disappointed.

The Capital Grille is unquestionably the Plaza’s iconic “go to” dining destination when celebrating personal milestones with friends and loved ones. With its expansive addition of space, the restaurant is able to reinforce the Grille’s existing rhythm of relaxed and elegant dining–all while keeping it persnal. It continues to provide an intimate and private dining experience with seating tucked away here and there, all ensconced in the warm glow of candles at each table. And if good dinner conversation is a must, then the restaurant offers perhaps the very best acoustics for conversation for your gathering be it a date night or group.

The ambiance is heightened with quintessential Missouri and Kansas figures such as Ginger Rogers, Charlie Parker, Harry Truman and Amelia Earhart. Their colossal oil portraits peer over your shoulders in bright, contemporary colors.

All that serves as the canvas for the menu.

Known for their dry aged steaks and an award-winning wine list, the restaurant has garnered fans far and wide for several decades.

Several things have not changed and that is a good thing! The acclaimed menu continues to offer Kansas City’s favorites. No reason to change what has proven to work. The excellent staff continues to provide gracious and attentive service.

As one of Kansas City’s premier dining establishments, it is primarily known as a steakhouse. The steaks are custom-aged in-house for 18 to 24 days and then hand-cut by the restaurant’s on-premise butcher. When our waiter was describing the steaks, I thought he was quoting poetry!

There are several lighter options including those for vegetarians and any fad diet you are on this week. Sides are as beautiful as they are tasty. We especially enjoyed the creamy burrata with heirloom tomatoes splashed with aged balsamic.

THE Cheesecake.

Another surprise was the luncheon plates priced at $22, which included a starter soup or salad and a choice of 4 entrées. The parmesan truffle fries were delightful. You may not normally order dessert, but why not? We shared a generous slice of coconut cream pie with house made caramel sauce and a hint of rum. It was spot on!

Kim Halloran, managing partner, looks forward to the possibilities of offering patrons the use of six separate dining rooms that can accommodate 8 to an impressive 60 guests. The private rooms also offer state of the art AV and an onsite event manager who will anticipate patrons’ needs. With the expansive windows, holiday guests will additionally enjoy the Plaza Lights. The comfortable private dining room, with elegant table settings, will impress your business guests.

Whatever your reason for an exquisite dining experience (and you really don’t need a special reason at all) you will enjoy The Capital Grille for your next celebration or just an enjoyable night out.
