Starlite Skate Center closes permanently

Skate

Starlite Skate Center at 301 SE 45th street has closed permanently after being shut down since March when the COVID-19 pandemic began.

“We are sad to close our doors, it was a difficult decision,” said Melissa Kershner, spokesperson for Starlite Skate.  “Starlite has been a place for families and friends to enjoy their time together; many of us grew up skating here and have fond memories of Starlite.”

The Starlite Skate Center property has been sold to a local buyer who will be opening a business at the address after renovations occur.

“We are thankful to have found a buyer that will be opening another locally owned establishment on the south side of town,” said Kershner.

While Starlite Skate Center is closing, they hope residents of Topeka continue to skate.

“We hope that you continue skating and support Sk8away located at 815 SW Fairlawn Road,” said Kershner.

Sk8away is currently open to the public and is working hard to be in compliance with all KDHE requirements regarding COVID-19. You can find their hours and pricing online at www.sk8away.net.

Starlite Skate Center has been owned by Loretta Long since 1991. Long plans to enjoy her retirement and hopes that when you see her out in the community, you continue to say hello as you always have.

Can You Help?

With events and churches cancelling services, the advertising that the Topeka Metro Voice relies on for support is drying up. For 14 years, Topeka Metro Voice has been a leader in the faith-based community. We have historically relied on advertising to fund the mission of our publication and sharing the Good News, as well as supporting local small businesses and community events. We are now seeking partners who want to support our publication and our mission of faith-based journalism and supporting the community and local small businesses.

Do you like what you read here? Help us continue our mission by supporting the Topeka Metro Voice in print and online for as little as $5. Every contribution counts, big or small. We sincerely thank you for your continued support and encouragement in these critical times.
