‘Captain America’ actor shares fun moment with Dan Crenshaw

“Captain America” actor Chris Evans found out the hard way that you shouldn’t interact with Republicans these days. If you do, you’ll end up being shamed by the left.

According to Deadline, Evans — who plays the iconic Marvel Universe hero — got an amazing surprise from Rep. Dan Crenshaw, the former Navy SEAL and first-term Texas Republican who lost an eye in combat.

“Captain America met Congressman America this week on Capitol Hill, as Evans, who plays the red, white and blue hero in the movies, met with House Rep. Crenshaw on Friday,” Deadline reported.

Crenshaw had a surprise for Evans. The Texas congressman, who lost an eye during combat service in Afghanistan, showed off a glass eye with the famous Captain America logo.”

Crenshaw tweeted about it and was retweeted by Evans.

Ah yes, a vibranium reference. So, this probably should have been the end of it — but Crenshaw is a Republican and that’s never the end of it, as the comments section of Evans’ retweet proved.

One tweet said “It’s a pity he seems to think the shield means building walls and caging children.”

Evans, by the way, is hardly a Republican. In fact, he’s been a vocal opponent of the Trump administration.

“I feel rage,” he told Esquire about Trump’s election.

“I feel fury. It’s unbelievable. People were just so desperate to hear someone say that someone is to blame. They were just so happy to hear that someone was angry. Hear someone say that Washington sucks. They just want something new without actually understanding. I mean, guys like Steve Bannon — Steve Bannon! — this man has no place in politics.”

So, in short, this guy should be a member in good standing of #TheResistance. Yet, he’s also willing to look at Republicans and Trump supporters as if they’re not some sort of horrible blight upon the face of Mother Earth.

“Some people say, ‘Don’t you see what’s happening? It’s time to yell,’” Evans said in the March 2017 interview.

“Yeah, I see it, and it’s time for calm. Because not everyone who voted for Trump is going to be some horrible bigot. There are a lot of people in that middle; those are the people you can’t lose your credibility with. If you’re trying to change minds, by spewing too much rhetoric you can easily become white noise.”

He was apparently willing, as part of this, to spend a cool moment with Crenshaw. And he got pilloried.

It’s worth noting that, in contrast to Evans’ post, the vast majority of responses on Rep. Crenshaw’s page were positive even though he was with an ardent Democrat.
