Singer, music producer, actress and mom to two, Carrie Underwood, celebrated her 38th birthday Wednesday by releasing “Nothing But the Blood of Jesus.” The new tune is just one of the songs from her much-anticipated gospel album, My Savior.

#NothingButTheBloodOfJesus is my birthday gift to YOU!” Underwood wrote on Instagram. “Thanks to Bear Rinehart of @needtobreathe for harmonizing with me! #MySavior

“Nothing But the Blood of Jesus” was originally composed in the mid-1870s by Robert Lowry, but Underwood shared a country twist to the classic hymn.

In a behind-the-scenes video about her rendition of the song, Underwood said the original song is “very kind of lopey,” so she wanted to “kind of mess with it … really kind of put some tempo behind it, and wanted to add these harmonies on it.”

Also featured on the song is Rinehart, the frontman of the Christian rock band Needtobreathe, who adds a “modern” feel to the song with his harmonies. The “American Idol” alum said she’s a fan of him and the band, and that his parts of the single made it “sound a little more current.”

“Nothing But the Blood of Jesus” will be one of the 13 songs on Underwood’s upcoming gospel album, My SaviorThe country singer recently revealed that other classics on the record will include “Softly and Tenderly,” as well as “Great Is Thy Faithfulness,” which was sung as a duet with gospel legend CeCe Winans.

“How Great Thou Art,” “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Amazing Grace” are also on the tracklisting.

Underwood’s last release in 2020 was a Christmas album titled, My Gift, which also featured some Christian songs. Her gospel album My Savior is set to release on March 26, just in time for Easter. A new country album from the artist is expected to follow.

The vocal powerhouse shared another birthday post on social media in which she celebrated her age.

“I am not 38 years old. I am not 38 years young,” she declared. “I am 38 years strong. 38 years awesome! 38 years wise. 38 years accomplished. 38 years happy! 38 years amazing!!”

“I am 38 years blessed…thank you, Lord, for all the trips around the sun!” she concluded. “Love all the birthday wishes!  Happy birthday to me!”

Last fall Underwood shared that she had her son in the studio when recording her new Christmas album.

The mother of two told NBC’s “Today” what it was like having her young son recording with her.

“I was in the booth with him and trying to get him to access all his little 5 year old emotions, which he can totally do on his own,” Underwood said.

“When I heard the song back with his sweet little voice on it, I was laughing and crying, and just so many emotions,” she continued. “I’m so proud of him.”

The vocalist was recently featured in an “I Am Second” web series with her husband titled, “Mike and Carrie: God & Country.” In the episodes the couple, who wed in 2010, spoke openly about their faith, family and what it’s like to be married with children.

“We learn from each other, and we have spirited discussions about things that we disagree on,” Underwood revealed in the series. “But at the end of the day, we love each other very much.”
