Citizen Donald Trump joins 1 million fleeing New York region

U.S. President Donald Trump has officially changed his official residence and is leaving the high-tax state of New York.

Trump confirmed news reports in a series of tweets, saying he has decided to make Palm Beach, Florida, his permanent residence.

“… despite the fact that I pay millions of dollars in city, state and local taxes each year,” the president tweeted, “I have been treated very badly by the political leaders of both New York city and state…”

Trump joins thousands of New Yorkers leaving the city for warmer, and perhaps, more tax-friendly climates.

Forbes reported on Nov. 1 that over 1 million people have left New York City and the suburbs in the two states joining it in the last nine years.

Some estimates count the region’s loss at over $1 billion in lost tax revenue from residents fleeing the city, who include everyone from taxi driers moving to New Jersey to the wealthy heading to Florida.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who has seen the city deteriorate under his Democratic leadership, did not seem upset about Trump’s change of address and has avoided answering questions about the tens of thousands of others leaving the state.

“Good riddance,” the governor tweeted of Trump moving out of New York.

The Forbes story, in talking about why people are fleeing the city, states: “If you live in NYC, you are forced to pay exorbitant taxes. The schools, bridges, tunnels, trains, airports and hospitals are falling apart. Casually walk the streets of NYC and you’ll notice that they are crowded and dirty. It’s likely that you’ll see or be confronted by homeless people who clearly display symptoms of serious yet untreated mental or physical issues. The politicians running the city feel that it’s more humane to let them live on the streets, as opposed to being treated in appropriate facilities. The crime rate has risen. To top off the misery, it’s cold and snowy in the winter and oppressively hot and humid in the summer.”

Trump and his wife, Melania, filed separate “declaration of domicile” documents in September with the Palm Beach County Circuit Court to change their residence to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club, the president’s resort in Palm Beach.
