Teams from Convoy of Hope in Springfield are fanning out to help victims of this weekend’s deadly tornadoes in the Midwest. Authorities confirmed that at least four people died because of Saturday night’s tornado outbreak across Oklahoma.
“Multiple large and dangerous tornadoes tore through parts of Oklahoma, leaving a trail of destruction and at least three dead, “ the ministry posted on its website. “Convoy of Hope has loads of essential supplies — including food, water, tarps, hygiene kits and more — en route to Sulphur and Ardmore. Distributions are still taking place in Nebraska and Iowa as communities continue to recover.”
Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief also was activated to help with the aftermath of the deadly tornadoes that caused extensive damage to parts of the state.
“We will serve our neighbors and communities in need,” state director Jason Yarbrough said on Sunday. “We anticipate mass feeding to be requested and for our chainsaw teams to be serving in some of the hard-hit areas including Sulphur, Ardmore, Marietta, Holdenville and Morris. Our disaster-relief assessors are out working this morning and all through the day. A chainsaw team is working in Morris removing tree damage and covering roofs with tarps. Other teams will go out as we get info and requests.”

Convoy of Hope teams also are on the ground in eastern Nebraska and western Iowa, serving those reeling from the losses they suffered in Friday’s tornado outbreak. Multiple truckloads of food, water and relief supplies left Convoy’s World Distribution Center on Saturday morning, headed for the area. “Thank you for your partnership that allows Convoy to be ready,” spokesperson Ethan Forhetz said. “And just know, we are ready for the next round of storms to hit as well.”
As warm air from the Gulf of Mexico flows into the central United States this time of year, severe storms are expected. Convoy is prepared to bring relief wherever and whenever a storm hits. Donations can be made at Spring Tornado Outbreak | Crisis Relief Fund | Convoy of Hope.
