As President Donald Trump announced a national state of emergency today, Kansas City area institutions continued to respond to the coronavirus with closings and delays. Here is the most current list of major organizations in alphabetical order.
- Avila University: Spring break extended through March 23, when learning will transition to online-only.
- Baker University: Transitioning to online learning when students return from spring break on March 23 through April 5.
- Big 12 Tournament: Officials canceled the remainder of the tournament scheduled to take place at the Sprint Center.
- Blue Springs Municipal Court: All dockets are continued to a later date from Monday, March 16 through Friday, March 27.

- Boys and Girls Clubs GKC: Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri, sites are closed. Independence sites will still operate.
- Brookside St. Patrick’s Warm-Up Parade: 40th annual parade canceled.
- Brunch with a Bunny: The April 4 event in Merriam is canceled.
- Cher: April 18 Sprint Center date postponed to Oct. 2.
- Children’s Mercy: No visitors, including siblings. Parents and guardians are not considered visitors, but must be free of symptoms and fever.
- Clay County Detention Center: Suspending personal visitation of inmates, along with volunteer programs, until further notice.
- Conception Abbey and Seminary College: Classes suspended for two weeks, to resume March 30 if circumstances allow.
- Connection Point Church: No in-person services on Sunday, March 15 at either location. Online services will be available.
- Disney on Ice at Sprint Center: The March 26-29 performances have been canceled. Tickhetholders will be refunded.
- Edgerton (KS) Municipal Court: Canceled March 24. All cases are continued to the April docket.
- Edgerton (KS) Parks and Recreation: All department activities are canceled through the end of April, including the Easter Egg Hunt on april 4 as well as spring break activities and all youth and adult classes.
- Emporia State University: Classes canceled next week.
- Folly Theater: An Evening with the ‘Rents, hosted by Camp Encourage, scheduled for Friday, March 13, has been canceled.
- Graceland University: All classes moving to an online format through March 27, with classes suspended March 16-17 to prepare.
- Great Wolf Lodge: All locations, including the one in Kansas City, Kansas, will be closed beginning 2 p.m. on March 15, with plans to reopen on April 2.
- Greater Kansas City Home Show: Canceled.
- Hickman Mills Public Schools: After-school events and activities canceled indefinitely.
- Irene B. French Community Center: The city of Merriam has closed the community center, including all classes and events, with plans to reopen Monday, April 6.
- Jackson County Board of Equalization hearings: By phone only. BOE staff will notify those with pending appeals about the change.
- Jackson County Detention Center: Lobby visitation and volunteer services suspended.
- Johnson County Library: All library-sponsored programs and events are canceled. Library volunteers are asked not to report for duty. Meeting rooms will also be unavailable.
- Kansas City Comets: The remainder of the Major Arena Soccer League regular season has been canceled.
- Kansas Department of Corrections: All visitation is suspended at KDOC facilities effective Friday.
- Kansas City, Kansas, Community College: Schools closed March 14-29. Virtual or hybrid delivery begins March 30 through April 10.
- Kansas City, Kansas, Public Schools: All sports practices canceled during spring break, on and off KCKPS sites.
- Kansas City Mavericks games: The remainder of the Mavericks’ season has been suspended.
- Kansas City Public Library: All group activities suspended from Friday through March 31. Library event spaces and meeting rooms will not be available.
- Kansas City Public Schools: Schools closed Friday. Students on spring break from March 16 through March 23.
- Kansas City St. Patrick’s Day Parade: Canceled.
- Kansas City University: Transitioning to online learning when students return from spring break on March 16 through at least March 31.
- Kansas State University: In-person classes canceled. Students will switch to remote learning and are encouraged to travel back to their homes.
- Kauffman Center for Performing Arts: All events postponed through April 1.
- KCFAA Annual Race, Place and Diversity Symposium: Canceled.
- KC FilmFest International: Postponed to sometime this summer.
- KC Metro Youth Soccer League: All games and practices postponed until March 23.
- KC STEM FEST: Canceled.
- Lawrence St. Patrick’s Day Parade: Canceled.
- Leavenworth United States Penitentiary: Closed to visitors for 30 days.
- Leawood City Hall: Closed to the public until further notice.
- Lee’s Summit Emerald Isle Parade: Canceled.
- Liberty (MO) municipal activities: The City of Liberty has canceled all events with more than 1,000 attendees and many other city-sponsored activities. Those include: Silver Center activities, Liberty Access Bus trips, Community Center programs, Liberty Performing Arts Theatre events, Parks and Rec practices and games, parks shelter rentals, tours of city facilities and municipal court.
- Merriam Municipal Court: Anyone scheduled to appear on March 24, 26, 31 and April 2 will be contacted with information on new court appearance dates.
- Metropolitan Community College: Closed from Thursday through the conclusion of spring break, March 21.
- Mid-Continent Public Library: Through April 15, all programs, including storytimes, are canceled; all due dates are extended; all room reservations are canceled; outreach efforts are canceled; Library-By-Mail service will be reduced.
- Missouri Western University: Spring break is extended through March 23. Determination for the rest of the semester will be made March 18.
- Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art: Will close Saturday through April 3, halting all events and public access to the museum. The museum will reassess after the three-week mark.
- Oak Park Mall: All events, including Easter Bunny photos, are canceled.
- Olathe Public Schools: Closed Friday.
- Olathe Public Schools: Closed Friday.
- Park University: Online learning begins March 16.
- Pittsburg State University: In-person classes suspended after March 13. Alternate format courses begin March 30.
- Planet Comicon: Postponed to late summer or early fall.
- Raspberry Spring Expo: Canceled.
- Research College of Nursing: Spring clinicals postponed until further notice.
- Riley County (KS) schools: USD 383 will close until March 30, including all extracurricular activities.
- Rockhurst High School: Closed Friday. Spring break extended to March 26, at which points students will begin “virtual” learning. The SAT test scheduled for March 14 has been canceled.
- Silverstein Eye Centers Arena: Events postponed through April 5.
- Shawnee County classes: The county’s health department ordered all school districts in Shawnee County suspend classroom and extracurricular activities for two weeks starting March 16.
- Shawnee St. Patrick’s Parade and Duck Race: Canceled.
- Snake Saturday Parade: Canceled.
- Sporting Kansas City matches: The MLS has suspended its season.
- Truman State University: In-person classes canceled the week of March 16.
- University of Kansas: Return to in-person class delayed until March 23.
- University of Missouri—Columbia: In-person classes suspended until March 15. Classes will be held remotely from March 16 through March 20.
- University of Missouri—Kansas City: Online learning begins March 16. Athletic events suspended until March 30.
