Major amusement parks delay openings over Covid-19

With Memorial Day weekend and the end of the school year fast approaching, Missouri’s three major theme parks normally would be going strong. Of course, this is not a normal year, and all have delayed their openings due to Covid-19.

Here are the latest updates from each theme park’s websites.

Worlds of Fun

“As the coronavirus matter remains a part of our daily lives, the team at Worlds of Fun continues to work with health and safety experts as we plan for increased safety measures and operational changes throughout our park,” wrote Tony Carovillano, vice president and general manager. “We are in constant communication with our local, state and federal governments and are looking forward to welcoming you back just as soon as it is safe to do so.”

The website also had these updates:

“The safety of our guests and associates has always been and will always be our top priority,” Carovillano said. “We want to assure you that when we do open, Worlds of Fun will continue to be a safe and fun environment for all. Our team is 100 percent committed to this promise. And we are working alongside industry experts and government officials toward this shared goal. We will keep you updated as we move forward; in the meantime, we thank you for your loyalty and continued support.”

Silver Dollar City

Brad Thomas, president of Silver Dollar City Attractions, posted this message on its website:

“As you know, the coronavirus pandemic is an ever-changing global issue. We are saddened for the people and families who have been directly impacted. Please know the well-being and safety of our guests and employees are our top priority and will always be at the heart of every decision that we make.

“To ensure your family will be able to have plenty of time to enjoy your 2020 season passes, we are extending your current 2020 season pass to June 1, 2021. There is nothing you need to do. Your pass will automatically be updated.

“While we don’t know the exact date that Silver Dollar City can open, please know we are working diligently behind the scenes and we are committed to providing safe and memorable experiences for you and your family. We will keep you informed of any updates here on our website. Thank you for your understanding and compassion for one another as we work to navigate this crisis together.”

Six Flags St. Louis

“Six Flags St. Louis is temporarily closed,” according to its website. “Following local and regional COVID-19 health directives, we will open as soon as it is safe to do so. While there have been no reported cases of COVID-19 at the properties, the safety of our guests, team members and animals is always our highest priority. We will continue to closely monitor this evolving situation and follow the most current guidance from federal, state and local officials.”
