Six missing after tornado sinks yacht

A tornado hit and sunk a yacht Monday morning leaving one dead and six missing. The incident took place off the coast of Sicily around 5 a.m. according to a spokesperson for Italy’s Coast Guard. The yacht was anchored about a half a mile from the port of Porticello on the Mediterranean island, CNN reports. Fifteen people have been rescued, including the captain. Called the “Bayesian”, the 56-meter ship flies under a British flag. Among the missing were four Britons, two Americans and one Canadian passenger, the Guardian reported.

Chicago boarding up ahead of DNC protests

Thousands of pro-Hamas protesters and other activists say they’ll descend on Chicago during the DNC convention and store owners, many of whom have experience with past looters, are boarding up their stores across the city. “Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson insists the city is ready and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker has dismissed fears that the 2024 Democratic National Convention could end up mirroring the 1968 convention,” reports Fox News. One business owner posted on X, “Businesses in Downtown Chicago are now boarding up their stores in preparation for the Democratic National Convention Owners are terrified Kamala Harris supporters may erupt in violence and loot their stores again When Republicans were in Milwaukee, no businesses boarded up their buildings because Republican voters don’t steal.”

Chicken recalled after wire found in meat

“More than 167,000 pounds of frozen chicken nuggets and tenders have been recalled after customers reported finding metal wire embedded in the products,” CBS reports. Perdue Foods and the U.S. Agriculture Department’s Food Safety and Inspection Service, say the recall covers select lots of three products: Perdue Breaded Chicken Tenders, Butcher Box Organic Chicken Breast Nuggets and Perdue Simply Smart Organics Breaded Chicken Breast Nuggets. The company later “determined the material to be a very thin strand of metal wire that was inadvertently introduced into the manufacturing process,” Jeff Shaw, Perdue’s senior vice president of food safety and quality, said in a prepared statement.
