Popular local event DJ dies from stroke complications

Andrew “Drew” Walker, lovingly known as DJ Drew or Sir Drew, died June 23 at the age of 59, following complications from a stroke suffered the previous weekend.

Walker owned and operated Solid Rock Sound Machine in Topeka with his wife, Karen Walker. The couple has been a part of the wedding industry and local event celebrations for over 20 years.

Walker was known and loved by many in the Christian community and took part in many local organizations and networking groups. His friendly demeanor and ready smile made him popular in both his business and personal life.

Solid Rock Sound Machine has been a part of many local celebrations and charity events, including Huff ‘n Puff, EasterFest, Duck Race, Walk for MS, Relay for Life, Purple Stride for Pancreatic Cancer and more. His caring personality will always be a big part of the wedding memories of many couples. His favorite crowd was his friends in the Special Needs community. He and Karen spun tunes monthly at DanceHouse, sponsored by Shawnee County Parks and Rec. and looked forward to the annual Spring Dance at their “home away from home,” Big Gage Shelter, at Gage Park in Topeka.

Walker was on the Board of Directors of Capital City Christian Chamber of Commerce (C5) for many years, and was the DJ and emcee of the EasterFest event sponsored by C5 for six years.

Pop-up community events in the driveway were common events at the Walker residence, on National Night Out, Independence Day and other occasions.

Walker was also a prolific poster on Facebook, and used the platform to display his wit and faith, as well as to encourage others and support local events, law enforcement and other organizations. The numerous posts about him recently on Facebook is a testament to his influence of the lives of so many.
