Unexpected Journeys: A Path to Motherhood.

unexpected

Jasmine scheduled an appointment for a pregnancy test, sharing that she was about to begin a nursing program, and the timing of the pregnancy felt far from ideal. She hadn’t informed her parents yet and was not married. Jasmine and the baby’s father were engaged, and while he was working and eager to support their future family, he wanted to wait until they were more financially secure before having a child.

During her meeting with a client advocate, Jasmine discussed her uncertainty about the pregnancy and explored the three available options: parenting, adoption, and abortion. Though undecided, she voiced concerns about the potential side effects of an abortion. The advocate provided information on abortion reversal, as well as resources for talking with her parents if needed.

Two weeks later, Jasmine returned for an ultrasound, having made the decision to carry the baby. She and the father had developed a plan for support, and Jasmine had shared the news with her family. However, despite these steps, she tearfully admitted, “I am not happy.” The unplanned pregnancy threatened to disrupt her plans for nursing school, which weighed heavily on her.

A year later, Jasmine responded to a follow-up text asking about her pregnancy outcome.  She responded that she had her son following a perfect, uncomplicated pregnancy.  She was now a registered nurse at a job she absolutely loved. Jasmine and her husband were married exactly one month after the baby was born.

Jasmine added, “I cannot thank you all enough for being those voices of reason in such a difficult time in my life… Your words of encouragement, reassurance, and faith are what confirmed what I already knew in my heart was right.”
