As 2024 quickly winds down, many people are making charitable contributions both to help worthy organizations and ease their tax burden. The good news is that many Christian ministries are on the America’s Top 100 Charities list compiled by “Forbes” magazine.
Many well-known organizations make the list, like The Salvation Army, Wycliffe Bible Translators CBN’s Convoy of Hope and World Vision. But several lesser known, but still impactful groups rank as well, such as Christian Appalachian Projet and Mattew 25.
According to its website, rankings are based on the amount of private contributions received by each of the two million charities in the United States. Government grants, payment for services rendered and investment returns are not included. Feeding America tops the overall list. The top-ranked Christian organizations include:
- The Salvation Army, No. 6
- Compassion International, No 12
- Samaritan’s Purse, No. 13
- World Vision, No. 19
- Lutheran Services in American, No 21
- CRU, No. 26
- Convoy of Hope, No. 27
- Catholic Relief Services, No. 34
- Food for the Poor, No. 43
- Christian Broadcasting Network and Operation Blessing, No. 60
- Young Life, No. 63
- Matthew 25, No. 67
- International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, No. 74
- Wycliffe Bible Translators, No. 97
- Christian Appalachian Project, No. 98
- Mercy Ships, No. 99
- Father Flanagan’s Boys’ Home, No. 100
Compassion International appreciated the recognition. The ministry partners with local churches in 29 countries to provide child development programs for 2.3 million children in poverty. Although the organization celebrates the ranking, leaders say none of it would be possible without the help of their dedicated supporters, employees, foundations and ministry partners. To each of them, the organization is grateful for their ongoing trust and investment in the lives of children.
“We are humbled and continually grateful to the Lord for the opportunity to serve children living in poverty,” CFO Joe Wilkins said. “The ability to do so is a testament to God’s faithfulness and to the extraordinary generosity of our donors who believe in this mission. Without their financial support, much of this is not possible. Every sponsorship, and every donation, has played a crucial role in effecting transformation in the life of a child.”
