Has the real Mt. Sinai of Moses been discovered?

A breakthrough documentary Finding the Mountain of Moses: The Real Mount Sinai in Saudi Arabia reveals newly unearthed research about the location of Mount Sinai and the Exodus route to achieve a better understanding of the historical authenticity of the Exodus story. The film was made by Ryan Mauro of the Doubting Thomas Research Foundation (DTRF), whose mission is to search for the truth regarding Biblical history and substantiate the stories of the Bible with real evidence that remains in those areas to this day.

“For generations, we have been taught we had to believe the story of the Exodus on faith alone. We were taught that Mount Sinai was located in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula, but there was barely any evidence found there to make the story of Moses and the Exodus believable,” said Ryan Mauro, the documentary filmmaker behind Finding the Mountain of Moses.

The film took Mauro and the DTRF over two years of covert operations to acquire the unprecedented footage.

A new theory has emerged in recent decades that the real Mount Sinai is actually in Saudi Arabia, along with other stunning biblical sites.

Many Biblical accounts have been reinforced by archaeological discoveries (i.e. the Dead Sea Scrolls and the like), and it is the goal of filmmaker Mauro and the DTRF to continue the work of scholars, archaeologists, and theologians who have dedicated their lives to the search of truth.

The most commonly cited location of Mount Sinai or “Jebel Musa,” meaning the “Mountain of Moses,” is at St. Catherine’s in the southern part of the Sinai Peninsula in modern-day Egypt. While there are prominent proponents of the accuracy of that designation, many others find the evidence to be lacking and have chosen to either dismiss the Exodus account as a myth or to search for other possible locations.

When considering which mountain is the true Biblical Mount Sinai, there are some important criteria to use as a guideline. Bible and Jewish historians provide information that was used by the film’s researchers to narrow down potential candidates.

Americans who have tried to visit the sites in Saudi Arabia have been arrested, threatened, and harassed, and their photos and videos have been confiscated. The sites are protected by guards and fencing which made this project an amazing feat for both the documentary film industry as well as for the advancement of Biblical research.

“This new unprecedented footage has been acquired from within Saudi Arabia, bringing the Exodus story to life as never before and potentially shaking up the Middle East,” Mauro said.

Finding the Mountain of Moses: The Real Mount Sinai in Saudi Arabia is a project of the Doubting Thomas Research Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to investigating the historicity of the Exodus, including documenting the theories about the location of Mount Sinai, and researching possible reconciliations of the Biblical account with modern understandings of history and science. It is not a proselytizing organization.
