What to know about season 5 of “The Chosen”

season chosen

More than 100,00 people worldwide have contributed to pay for the fifth season of “The Chosen.” The next season will tell the story of Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem in the days before his death and resurrection.

“Season five is fully funded because more than 100,000 people from around the world gave to make season five of this groundbreaking series possible,” said Stan Jantz, CEO of Come and See. “The extraordinary generosity we witness daily is inspiring, because it enables us to continue making the authentic Jesus known to the world, one episode at a time.”

The Come and See Foundation is a partnering ministry that raises money for production, translation and global distribution. One of its goals is to keep the series available for free. The first four seasons of “The Chosen” are available on the series’ official app, which is available in more than 50 languages.

Jantz said the ministry’s goal is to “present the greatest story of the greatest person to the greatest number of people in a language they know best. The momentum we’re seeing behind this movement is like no other as the world responds to the story of Jesus through the series.

Creator and director Dallas Jenkins thanked fans for their support.

“The only reason I’m able to focus on show running `The Chosen’ is because viewers continue to give to Come and See,” Jenkins said. “And even more beautiful is the impact the show is having all over the world because of Come and See’s work in keeping the show free and translating it into so many languages.”

In an interview with Variety, Jenkins stated the latest season will include “a lot of truth bombs, a lot of mic-drop moments” from Jesus, said Jenkins. “This is actually going to be a season that is in some ways kind of cool and kind of fun, even though (the viewers) know what’s coming and it’s definitely got a lot of weight over it. But we just couldn’t have three seasons in a row with nothing but pain and loss and misery.”

“Season 5 is kind of the kick-butt moments before Season 6, where we’re not going to shy away from the misery,” Jenkins continued.

Jenkins previously said season five will include the triumphal entry into Jerusalem, the overturning of moneychanger tables by Jesus and Jesus’ interactions with the Pharisees in the temple.

The season could be released as early as winter 2025.
