1776 Action designates September as Patriotic Education Month

September has been designated Patriotic Education Month by 1776 Action, an organization influenced by former President Donald Trump. The objective is to counter false and misleading accounts of American history in schools.

The initiative encourages leaders across the country to proclaim September as Patriot Education Month to “promote an honest and patriotic history that celebrates the history of progress that defines our nation and the heroes and patriots who have led the way.”

“For good reason, there’s been a lot of attention on the divisive, ideological agenda being forced on students,” President Adam Waldeck of 1776 Action said. “But while we fight that, we must also teach our youngest citizens why they should be proud to be Americans. From Washington to Lincoln to Rev. King to Rosa Parks, we are a land of heroes, and the values that they all fought and sacrificed for should not be shunned but celebrated. Patriotic Education Month is one way to get started.”

The group will hold a Rally to Save our Schools on Sept. 8 in Loudoun County, Va. Ben Carson, former secretary of housing and urban development, will speak. The event comes at a time when parents and teachers are expressing great concern over the education system implementing a controversial critical race theory curriculum, along with measures that favor transgender students. Multiple Loudoun County educators have either quit their jobs or filed a lawsuit against the school board because of politicized agendas that are being pushed on staff and students.

Fifth-grade teacher Laura Morris quit her job during a school board meeting last month.

“Since my contract outlines the power that you have over my employment in Loudoun County Public Schools, I thought it necessary to resign in front of you,” Morris said. “School board, I quit. I quit your policies. I quit your training, and I quit being a cog in a machine that tells me to push highly politicized agendas on our most vulnerable constituents — children.”

A proclamation that is available for free download for recital at events or by elected officials reads in part:

WHEREAS, the United States of America is an exceptional nation whose people have always striven to form a more perfect union based upon our founding principles and the unalienable rights endowed to us by our Creator;

WHEREAS, America’s constitutional republic, informed by our founding principles of liberty and equality, is a glorious achievement and the source of our ever-advancing victories against hatred and oppression;

WHEREAS, generations past have constructed majestic monuments like the National Archives and its beautiful Rotunda to house our founding documents as an eternal testament to their power to give liberty and hope to all;

WHEREAS, our Founding Fathers – including George Washington and Thomas Jefferson – as well as leaders like Abraham Lincoln, Frederick Douglass and Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. were among the greatest Americans to ever live, that they deserve to be honored as heroes, and that we should teach our children the truth about their lives and achievements;

Throughout this month, 1776 Action will highlight teachers, students and schools across the country that “seek to celebrate American history and preserve the memory of American heroes.” More information is available at www.1776action.org.
