Actor Jon Voight shares moment he understood that God is real

Jon Voight

Jon Voight faced and overcame adversity to become a respected actor who is not afraid to talk about his faith and conservative values.

Voight recounted a time when his life was filled with pain and uncertainty. “I was in a lot of trouble at one point,” he said, according to “Beliefnet.” “I had some problems, and I was really suffering for many reasons.”

His career was uncertain, and his relationships with his children and ex-wife were strained. Burdened by these struggles, Voight found himself at a breaking point, literally falling to the floor and crying out, “It’s so difficult.” Up until that moment, Voight admitted he had prayed with the sense that “anybody’s listening” but not with a deep conviction. That all changed when he heard a voice, not in his imagination, but a clear, powerful voice that he describes as full of wisdom and kindness.

“I heard in my ear, ‘It’s supposed to be difficult,’” Voight said. He was stunned. The voice was filled with such resonance and clarity that it left no doubt in his mind: God was speaking to him. At that moment, Voight realized that God had been with him all along. His struggles were not for nothing but were part of the journey. This realization turned his world upside down, reshaping his understanding of his life, his faith and his purpose.

After his encounter with God, Jon Voight spent the following days testing this revelation. He asked for signs, and each time, God responded. This profound experience confirmed what Voight had always hoped for — that God was real, that he knew him intimately and that he was on Voight’s side.

“If I’m going to be a vessel for God, I better be cleaner than I was,” Voight said. “I’ve got to be a righteous fellow.”

What followed was a deep heart change that comes only from an authentic encounter with God. Voight recognized the need to leave selfishness and sinful desires behind and begin living a life dedicated to serving the Lord. “I have fear of the Lord,” Voight said, acknowledging his reverence for God. “I’m afraid of offending God.”
