Area National Day of Prayer locations announced

National Day of Prayer will be held Thursday, May 2, and area locations have been announced. Across the nation this solemn event will be attended by hundreds of thousands of Christians.

The theme for this year’s 68th annual event is a quote from Scripture: “Love One Another.” Prayer topics this year will include education, government, first responders, business, healthcare, repentance, and revival. The goal is to apply the Love One Another theme to each of these.

The Kansas City-based Citywide Prayer Movement is helping sponsor multiple NDP gatherings throughout the day.

Gary Schmitz, executive director of Citywide Prayer, says it’s important that Christians turn out and pray for the nation and their communities.

“There will be thousands of gatherings of believers across our nation praying and asking God to forgive our sins and to heal our land. Would you not agree that we are desperate for a move of God in our nation and United Prayer is the answer?” Schmitz told Metro Voice.

Schmitz quotes Jeremiah 33:3 which says, “Call to Me and I will answer…” in his encouragement for believers to participate.

Citywide Prayer is sponsoring 10 locations around the metro including morning, noon, and several evening gatherings.

In Kansas there will also be a statewide observance at noon in the second-floor rotunda of the capitol. State National Day of Prayer Coordinator Donna Lippoldt says, “Please come and pray with your legislators as we seek the Lord for righteousness in our state.”

Missouri’s capital city will also host an event. A gathering in the Missouri Capitol’s first-floor Rotunda will feature opening remarks by Gov. Mike Parson, followed by a keynote speech by Col. David Bowlus, of Fort Leonard Wood. The Army band will also perform during the service, according to information on the National Day of Prayer website.

The service in the Capitol is scheduled to begin at noon Thursday.

Other observances are taking place across Kansas and Missouri (see link below for locations).

Christians throughout the city are being encouraged to attend the citywide observance at one of these KC locations.

Once again, America needs a praying church.

“There have been many sweeping spiritual movements in America’s history. The largest have earned the label of great awakening. We surely need another great awakening in America. Each of the great moves of God in our nation have begun with passionate, united prayer,” stated Rev. David Epps, the Shawnee County, Kansas National Day of Prayer Coordinators.

He added, “We have a savior in Christ. We surely need his salvation now.”
