Christian College Expo plus seminar on faith and science is March 4

The Midwest Christian College Expo, with sponsorship from Bott Radio Network, will host the seminar “Navigating Faith and Science in College” at this year’s Midwest Christian College Fair. The mini-seminar begins at 9am and runs until 10am when the college fair begins. Both events are at Colonial Presbyterian Church, 9500 Wornall Rd., in south Kansas City.

The Midwest Christian College Expo is Kansas City’s longest-running Christian college fair and is not associated with any one local Christian high school or national for-profit organization. Because of that independent focus, it has been a community tradition since 1998, bringing parents and students together from over 1,000 churches and schools while hosting some of the best Christian universities from across the nation. The free expo typically features up to 50 colleges in a well-organized “convention” atmosphere where it’s easy to talk to college reps and get information.  Each participating student receives a full-color Christian college guide listing programs, tuition, sports, and financial aid available at each school.

This year, Chick-fil-A will be on-site providing lunch to attendees before the second Faith and Science seminar at 1 pm.

That seminar explores the debate of science and faith coexisting.  The question resonates with Christian students heading off to college. The answer, of course, is yes! Students heading to college need not fear science. Students will be inspired and emboldened to confidently enter college scientific studies and careers while strengthening their faith.

Mr. Dave Napier, a speaker with the Institute for Creation Research, will address a popular misconception that faith and science are incompatible.

Col. Jeff Williams is a retired NASA astronaut who traveled to space four times. He says there is no conflict between the two. He would know. He’s a Christian with several science degrees, and masters’ degrees in Aeronautical Engineering and national security. He’s also won numerous Naval and NASA awards.

Navigating Faith & Science in College is Saturday, March 4 at the Midwest Christian College Expo.

“Science does not contradict Christianity,” he says. “There is no contradiction. The contradiction comes into your philosophy going into your science. And your philosophy acknowledges a God that has either revealed himself specifically in the scriptures of the Bible, or your philosophy discounts or doesn’t allow a God. Then you have to explain the existence of everything by chance over time.”
