In less than a month, voters will go to the polls for what may be one of the most consequential presidential and congressional elections in history. In addition, Missouri voters will decide the fate of Amendment 3, which would make abortion a constitutionally protected right in the state.

“With this current political environment and Amendment 3 being on the ballot for Missouri, there is a need to inform and educate the body of Christ and others in relation to Amendment 3 and how we are to respond,” said Phil Hopper, lead pastor of Abundant Life Church in Lee’s Summit. “We want to bring clarity where there appears to be a lot of confusion around this issue. Amendment 3 would enshrine abortion on demand into the Missouri state constitution and, additionally, it is being framed as reproductive rights, which could impact parental consent as it relates to abortion.”

This is why the church is sponsoring Founded in Faith: A Special Prayer Service for Missouri’s Future. The event will be held at 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 13, at the church’s main campus at 304 SW Persels Road in Lee’s Summit. Two nationally acclaimed speakers will participate:

“David Barton is a premier historian as it relates to American history, and he has the largest privately held library of original documents dating to the colonial era.” Hopper said. “He connects the dots to America’s history and Christianity. Tony Perkins is with the Family Research Council. It is a nonpartisan ministry highly involved in pro-family legislation. Tony and David have quite the following, so we are anticipating a large crowd.”

Although the proposed Missouri amendment will be discussed, the event will be informative for people on both sides of the state line.

“More than a debate and divide in the state of Missouri, it is nationwide,” he said. ”Regardless of the state, every Christian needs to be able to engage in healthy conversation as it relates to abortion. This issue is about the life of the unborn. We have a responsibility to educate and protect the life of the unborn.”

Attendees will leave better prepared to stand firm at a critical time.

“As the church goes, so goes the nation,” Hopper said. “We are called to be the salt of society. By salt of the earth, Jesus is referring to our influence related to stopping or slowing down the spiritual decay of today. We have an opportunity to be the salt. We should register to vote, educate ourselves on the issues and candidates, pray and go vote.”
