Baylor is among these colleges experiencing revival

The Asbury awakening and revival has not ended but is spreading across the nation, including Baylor University in Texas.

What some have referred to as a potential new Great Awakening within Christian history started as a spark on the campus of Kentucky’s Asbury University in February when thousands of Christians gathered for two weeks of Spirit-led worship, prayer and repentance. Since that time, the outpouring has spread around the United States, especially opening the hearts and minds of young people.

Baylor partnered with several campus ministries and local churches to hold 72 consecutive hours of worship on campus last week. The theme was “Lord, teach us to pray.”

Baylor students gather on campus for worship, prayer and speakers.

Speakers included former Vertical Ministries leader Dale Wallace, Greater New Light Baptist Church pastor the Rev. Sam Doyle, Highland Baptist Church senior adult minister and former missionary Yanit Ross and Antioch Community Church pastor and elder Carl Gulley. Inspired by a 90-day revival that broke out at Baylor in 1945, the event called FM72 became a regular fixture at the Christian university in 2019.

“The purpose of FM72 is to stir a passion for Jesus Christ in the Baylor community,” associate chaplain Charles Ramsey, Ph.D., said. “It is a time to take inventory of one’s own journey, to linger in prayer and to recalibrate toward what is most important: our shared faith in Jesus Christ. Simply put, the goal is that every person experiences a clear, caring and compelling invitation to know Jesus and to find a discipleship community where they can grow and flourish.”

Twenty attendees were baptized on the last night of the Baylor event.

“Something good, tangibly good, happens when we stop to pray,” Ramsey said. “There is a wonder and sense of joy in discovering prayer and for many, this opens the way to an ongoing and deepening devotional, a more personal faith and a love for the church. That is our hope: to engage more of the facets of Christianity in our community and to humbly invite greater participation.”

Another Texas college where the Holy Spirit has been felt is Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Inspire Broadcasting Network posted several new photos on Facebook of students worshiping together at a recent outdoor service — singing, praying and answering the gospel call by being baptized. “The Lord is not slowing down,” Inspire wrote.

Meanwhile, the outpouring continues 679 miles away at Highlands College in Birmingham, Ala. Malachi O’Brien, pastor of The Church at Pleasant Ridge in Harrisonville, shared a video clip on Twitter of students being baptized at Highland College. He said the video had been sent to him by Kevin Bussey, a professor of biblical studies at the college.

“TESTIMONY. SPONTANEOUS BAPTISMS. God at work @HCollege,” O’Brien wrote. “It’s stories like this that increase our faith to believe God for MORE! He is NOT done with Gen Z. He has only begun. Our sons & daughters belong to JESUS. Even if you have a ‘prodigal’ and it looks like there is no hope. TRUST ME. There is.”

Grace Christian Academy, a middle school in Knoxville, Tenn., reported the results of the school’s annual Discipleship Days as the school welcomed back its alumni.

“WHAT A WEEK!,” it posted on Facebook. “The Holy Spirit has filled rooms and lives on campus this week as we welcomed alumni back on campus to lead #discipleshipdays. Incredible messages, intense worship, and nearly 30 lives eternally changed! Please join us in prayer that the spirit will continue to move in the lives of our students in the weeks and months to come. We thank the master, we thank the savior, we thank God.”

Author and evangelist Rick Curry posted to social media earlier this month of a revival starting on the campus of the University of Valley Forge in Phoenixville, PA.

“GREAT NEWS! Valley Forge College in Pennsylvania is still in Chapel service since 11AM AND school has cancelled classes for TOMORROW!  ‘There is a move of God coming no building can contain and no ministry will control!’ Report from trusted friend!”

The latest locations come on the heels of a massive outpouring at Asbury University that spread to multiple college campuses across the United States, including Purdue University, Regent University, Lee University, Indiana Wesleyan, Louisiana State University and others, below:
