Kansas City named #1 city for work and play

Forget New York, LA or Vienna. Kansas City has been named the best city in the world to work during the day and explore in the evenings and on weekends. Notably, it was the only city in the United States to make the top 10.

The study, from Icelandair, uses seven metrics: averaging working hours, quality of life, cost of living, internet speed, health care, environmental factors like noise and light pollution and air quality), and safety.

The rankings create a picture of each city’s quality with data from the United Nations’ World Happiness Report.

The top-ranking is good news for the city’s marketing department and comes weeks after being named as a future host of the World Cup.

But Kansas City metro residents, which now number over 2.1 million, have long known the area is a great place to live but why would people want to visit?

CNBC says Kansas City tops the list of all world cities because of a slower pace of tourist activities and well-established tourism industry including hotels, museums, sports, food and music.

The study recommended the city “for those looking to travel and focus on their wellness alongside a remote working schedule.”

A person who is visiting on a working vacation can enjoy jazz, baseball, 200 fountains (more than Rome) fountains, jazz, and barbecue. With more than 200 fountains, Kansas City has more fountains than Rome, according to CNBC.

Travel to KC, as it’s known, will get even easier in March 2023 when it will open the nation’s newest, and most high-tech airport. The five-year project will replace its much-beloved three semi-circular terminals with one central terminal reducing security wait-times and making it possible for passengers to roam between gates and access all restaurants and shops without being forced to go through TSA security numerous times.

Which other cities made the list?

According to Icelandair, these are the best cities for a remote working vacation. “Whether it’s the low noise and light pollution or the high temperatures, these destinations are the perfect place to work hard and then unwind with the locals,” the report says.
