The pro-life community from across western Missouri will gather Jan. 19 at the Ilus Davis Plaza in front of the Federal Courthouse in downtown Kansas City. The prayer vigil from 1 pm to 2 pm will commemorate the Roe v. Wade decision and remember the millions of children lost to abortion.
Missouri Right to Life – Western Region has organized the event for over a decade to publicly pray for the sanctity and protection of life.
“My goal for the vigil is to join hearts and voices in prayer to intercede for the unborn and all the demographics affected by the assault on life,” Linda Verhulst, director of MRL-WR told Metro Voice.
There are few opportunities during the year for pro-life community to gather and this feels a need she says.
“The vigil promotes unity because it brings together people of all ages and faith backgrounds with the singularity of purpose of defending the sanctity of life,” Verhulst says.
Presenters at this year’s event include:
Bryce Crowell, Mother’s Refuge
Annie Fowler, 40 Days for Life
Karen Lathrop, If Not for Grace
Sonya, Parkville Women’s Clinic
Charita Vine, Black Americans for Life
Bill Francis, KC/SJ Diocese
Charlie Paine, Blue River Bible Church
Verhulst says there are four reasons to attend this year. First, to sand in solidarity with those marching for life at the nation’s capital on Jan. 21. Second, to pray in unity with other pro-life citizens. Third, to hear from a variety of pro-life individuals reflecting a racially and spiritually diverse community and last, to receive free materials to distribute during the year in your church, school and community.
For those attending, the location is at 400 E. 9th Street and parking is available at the Catholic Center Garage at 20 West 9th Street.
MRL-WR also invites you to attend a Pro-life Action and Lobby day Tuesday, March 8 in Jefferson City. For more information, you can call 573-635-5110.
