USA Today subtly encourages retailers to drop MyPillow

Media outlets like USA Today are seemingly putting pressure on retailers to drop MyPillow. Mike Lindell, the latest victims of the cancel culture, has already seen his linen line dropped by Kohl’s, Bed Bath & Beyond, and now JC Penney.

USA Today ran a story this week with the not too subtle headline, “MyPillow still in Costco despite Mike Lindell support of Trump election fraud claims…”

The keyword there is “despite,” traditionally used to convey something shouldn’t be happening as in “Costco should not be selling the pillows.”

The pressure to cancel MyPillow and the free speech rights of its owner continues as retailers Wayfair, supermarket chains Kroger and H-E-B (in Texas) have also dropped the line without explanation.

USA Today reported that “…but Costco is not halting sales.”

According to Lindell, Costco is actually promoting MyPillow at “special events’ through the end of February in certain states such as Arizona, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, Colorado, Texas, Utah and Washington State.

The newspaper went so far to call Costco and ask for a comment on why they were still selling the bedding line. A Costco representative did tell the news outlet SFGate.com that “We have contractual commitments to MyPillow that we intend to honor, as we seek to do with all of our suppliers.”

Lindell, like the 75+ million Americans who voted for Donald Trump, has been vocal about the election and his support for the 45th President.

He told USA TODAY that he will not back down from his constitutionally-protected right to speak out and support a candidate of his choice, saying that he believes trolls and bots, not real customers, are posting negative comments about his best-selling line of products.

In a statement released this week, Bed Bath & Beyond announced it had made the decision to stop selling MyPillow products as part of a purge of a “number of underperforming items and brands,” according to CNN. Lindell told KARE-TV that his MyPillow products also have been pulled from Kohl’s, HEB Stores, the Canadian Shopping Channel and Wayfair.

The move by retailers came after Dominion Voting Systems, one of the largest election equipment manufacturers in the country, sent a letter to Lindell threatening legal action if he did not retract his claims about the company’s equipment and his assertion that Dominion participated in systemic election fraud intended to “steal” the presidency from Trump.

“Your smear campaign against Dominion has been relentless, and you have leveraged your significant social media following to inflict the maximum amount of damage to Dominion’s good name and business operations,” the letter said.

Lindell, for his part, continues to demand an investigation into voting irregularities, like hundreds of legislators across the nation. He recently tweeted what he said was “one page of hundreds that prove President Trump got around 79 [million] votes to 68 [million] for Biden,” adding, “Everyone should want the truth.”

USA Today is not the only media outlet attempting to persuade retailers and customers to abandon the MyPillow guy. From CNN to CBS and the New York Times, articles and stories have appeared with the same verbiage.
