Kansas City Awakening March to coincide with Franklin Graham march in Washington

“Join your Christian brothers and sisters to cry out for God to bring a spiritual awakening in our city, nation, and the world!” is the call of Bishop John Birmingham.

Birmingham and other Kansas City area pastors and civic leaders will lead the Kansas City Awakening March, Saturday, September 26, at the Plaza Fountains (formerly the J.C. Nichols Fountain), 47th Mill Creek Parkway.

The march is in conjunction Franklin Graham’s Prayer March 2020 event taking place in Washington, D.C., the same day.

The Kansas City regional gathering will start with a prayer meeting at the fountains at 11:30 a.m. Following the prayers, participants will march around Mill Creek Park, continuing to pray against violence and for peace. After the march, a prayer rally will be held at 1 p.m., at Linwood and Indiana. The rally will focus on prayer against violence and for peace, and to pray for the family of one-year-old Tyron Payton who was killed there.

Kansas City has experienced a sharp rise in crime, including homicides, during the past 6 months but the trend had been going up over the last several years. Black residents have pleaded with Mayor Quinton Lucas to act and civic leaders have called it a city emergency.

In April, Birmingham, Rev. Mike Bobbitt, and Evangelist Bill Anderson began praying and fasting for a great awakening to take place in America and around the world. A similar awakening is described in the book of Acts:

“And it shall be in the last days,’ God says, ‘That I will pour forth of My Spirit on all mankind; And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, And your young men shall see visions, And your old men shall dream dreams; Even on My bond slaves, both men and women, I will in those days pour forth of My Spirit and They shall prophesy’,” Acts 2:17-18.

Now with the Franklin Graham prayer march, this same effort is being replicated by Christians around the country. That belief is that through prayer peace shall be found.

“One of the Biblical requirements of an awakening revival is the unity of true believers in the single purpose of imploring Almighty God to once again pour out His Spirit in might and power. God’s requirement for us as His body to see this great moving of God’s Holy Spirit, is to humble ourselves before God, turn from our sin and seek His presence in our lives and world,” Bishop Birmingham commented in his information to the press about the march and prayer rally.

Face masks will be worn and social distancing will be enforced during both the march and the prayer rally. Participants are welcome to bring chairs.
