Meghan McCain is under an intense spotlight as the daughter of former Sen. John McCain, and a conservative host on “The View,” and who experienced a miscarriage. She recently shared with commentator Ben Shapiro about how she handles the stress.
“I need God to guide me a little bit right now,” she said.
In August 2018, her father died after a lengthy battle against glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. Just shy of one year later, in July of this year, the 35-year-old co-host announced she and her husband Ben Domenech, editor and co-founder of The Federalist, suffered a miscarriage. It was in the midst of that great loss that McCain knew she married the right man.

“I believe in God for a lot of different reasons,” she said, “but Ben was 100 percent the right man for me through my life right now and the amount of tragedy I’ve had to go through,” because he’s just steady as a rock and he believes in God’s plan and he just always reminds me that we aren’t in control, He is. I really do think God brought him to me for a reason.”
Shapiro asked McCain how she would define her own faith. She said she grew up Baptist (Domenech is Anglican) and still attends church when she isn’t traveling. Most often, though, McCain said she feels God’s presence in nature.
During a recent trip to Wyoming with her husband, McCain said she woke up one early morning, pleading with God to give her a sign he was there for her. Later that day, she and Domenech went on a fishing trip, where they encountered a moose — something their guide said had never happened in his several years out on the water. That was the sign McCain prayed for.
“That’s the most obvious example of why I am a woman of faith,” Meghan said. “I know it’s not always that simple, but there are reminders if you’re looking for them.”
