Deion Sanders Sets Strict Dress Code for Colorado Players

Deion Sanders is not just coaching football at Colorado—he’s crafting a culture. Heading into his third season as head coach, Sanders has introduced a new classroom dress code for his Buffaloes, extending his push for discipline beyond the football field.

Slides, hoodies, and headphones are now banned in the classroom for Colorado football players, part of a set of rules Sanders unveiled in a video shared by his son, Deion Sanders Jr. Sitting in the back row? That’s off-limits, too. Even for online classes, players are told to wear shirts and stay seated—no logging in on the go.

“If I see you in slides on campus, we’re going to have a problem,” Sanders told his team. “If I see you with a hoodie or headphones in class, it’s going to be a problem. If I see you sitting in the back of the classroom, it’s going to be a problem.”

The move has sparked derision and praise. Most are applauding his focus on accountability. One social media user called the dress code “a signal that you’re here for more than just football.”

Sanders’ emphasis on discipline comes as the Buffaloes look to build on last season’s 9-4 record. With Heisman winner Travis Hunter and quarterback Shedeur Sanders off to the NFL, the team faces a season of transition, counting on new starters like Omarion Miller and freshman Sincere Brown.

Discipline isn’t just cosmetic—last year, Colorado was penalized 99 times, something Sanders says “will not happen” again. As the Buffaloes prepare for a challenging Big 12 slate, Sanders is betting that higher standards in the classroom can translate to fewer mistakes on the field—and better men beyond it.
