Powell Gardens welcomes Painted Garden (May 2-June 21) as joy and color sweep through the Gardens. This year’s display is a celebration of the enduring spirit of the Midwest called The Prairie Is Our Home.
Visitors are invited to wander through gardens alive with the bright colors of spring flowers while enjoying the open skies, rolling prairie, and deep sense of place that has shaped generations.
A highlight of the season is a new barn quilt art installation, a vibrant fusion of horticulture and heritage. By bringing these iconic designs to Kansas City’s botanical garden, Painted Garden honors the artistry of rural America while reimagining it in a living, blooming landscape.
Painted Garden remains rooted in Kansas City’s art community and will feature new work by Belger Arts in the Conservatory along with other artwork by local artists.
The spring festival is a joyful meeting of tradition and renewal. Painted Garden invites you to celebrate the prairie as both a place and a feeling, a home woven from color, culture, and community.

See all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters come to life in this fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza! From Whoville to the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, it’s sure to be a wild adventure.
Now one of the most performed shows in America, Seussical is a fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza! Tony winners, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Lucky Stiff, My Favorite Year, Once on This Island, Ragtime), have lovingly brought to life all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, lazy Mayzie and a little boy with a big imagination – Jojo. The colorful characters transport us from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus to the invisible world of the Whos.
The Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust that contains the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child sent off to military school for thinking too many “thinks.” Horton faces a double challenge: not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant.
Run time of Seussical the Musical is approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes with one 15 minute intermission.

Not Alone is dedicated to walking with those who are suffering after an abortion experience. This step toward healing offers a confidential, supportive and trauma-informed environment where participants can explore and apply biblical truths, leading to spiritual and emotional freedom. By addressing the layers of shame and regret associated with abortion, individuals can experience profound healing. Our hope is for every participant to leave with a sense of freedom, having found a supportive community that understands their pain and offers hope for the future
