Calvary University Invites Prospective Students for “Calvary Day”
Kansas City's 'hidden gem' is getting more attention these days

Is your student interested in a solid biblical college education but wants to stick close to home? Calvary University, nestled in south Kansas City, invites them to spend a day on campus March 23. It’s a firsthand look at life at school with other meaningful college experiences.
The new “Calvary Day” is a reimagined program based on the former “Calvary Days,” a popular multi-day event that gave students a taste of college life. With the change, more students will be able to participate, say organizers. It runs from 8am to 9pm.
It’s “the perfect chance to experience college life, meet new friends, and have some fun,” the university wrote in a Facebook post announcing the change. “We may or may not have potatoes… but we will have a blast.”
Punches above its weight
For many in Kansas City, Calvary has operated almost under the radar, even though it has a long and storied history. With fewer than 300 students, its strong academic, arts and sports reputation is known for punching “above its weight.” Founded in 1932, it’s long been known as a Bible-centered university preparing students for ministry and service.

Admissions Director Brad Paxton, who is also a Calvary alum, says the college’s mission is to “create an environment that values and promotes a Christian worldview and helps students find God’s calling for their lives.” Paxton and other school alumni told Metro Voice their experience at Calvary equipped them to serve both the church and the broader world.
“That’s important with today’s high school students who are increasingly looking for practical ways to put both their knowledge and faith into practice in real-life situations,” he says.
The visit program continues the school’s tradition of giving high school students and their families a look at campus life. Students, and even parents, can sit in on classes, meet current students, attend chapel, and hang out with faculty and admissions staff. Throughout the day, it will also give prospective students an opportunity to ask questions about academics, financial aid and campus life.
During the visit event, prospective students can attend two classes of their choosing. Options include Educational Psychology, Sports Psychology, Romans, Introduction to Christian Missions and a session on how to apply to college, led by the admissions team.
Students who attend an official campus visit can also qualify for a $500 Campus Visit Scholarship toward their first year at the university. To be eligible, students must register for the event, attend all required sessions and complete the federal FAFSA financial aid application.
For those coming in from out of town, the college has made it easy for students and their families. Overnight housing is offered on a first-come basis.
Calvary promotes itself as an affordable Christian higher education option in the Midwest. The university notes that it ranks among the top 30 schools in the region for lowest student debt, according to the 2025 U.S. News and World Report rankings. The campus also maintains an 8 to 1 student to faculty ratio, resulting in smaller classes typical of many Bible colleges.
In addition to undergraduate bachelor’s and associate’s degrees, the university offers graduate and doctoral programs specializing in theology, ministry, counseling, education and business. It is also known for its music and theater arts programs and an accelerated 5-year bachelor’s and master’s program.
