Alliance for Life Celebrates 25 Years of Uniting and Championing LIFE Organizations

Twenty-five years after its founding, Alliance for Life is celebrating a milestone marked by growth, partnership, and a continued commitment to strengthening life-affirming organizations across Missouri.

Alliance for Life (AFL) was founded in 2001 with a mission to promote, nurture, unite, and expand the work of Christ-centered pro-life organizations throughout Missouri. What began as a network of approximately 10 organizations has since grown to 102 affiliate organizations serving communities across Missouri and beyond.

For 25 years, AFL has worked alongside pregnancy resource centers, maternity homes, adoption agencies, abortion recovery ministries, and other life-affirming organizations. Through training, resources, advocacy, networking, and support, AFL equips these organizations as they serve women, men, children, and families in their communities.

AFL CEO Marsha Middleton has witnessed that growth from the beginning.

Middleton served on the founding committee and later joined AFL’s Board of Directors while also serving as the executive director of a pregnancy center. That experience gave her a firsthand understanding of the importance of connection and collaboration among organizations doing similar work across the state.

“We all needed people to learn from, people to encourage us, people we could encourage, and partners willing to lend a helping hand during difficult seasons,” Middleton said.

In 2007, Middleton stepped into the role of CEO. At the time, AFL was still a young organization determining how it could best serve and strengthen its growing network of affiliates.

God has allowed AFL to grow into the organization they are today and expand the resources, training, advocacy, and support they provide to those on the front lines of the pro-life movement.

“It has been one of the greatest privileges of my life to serve you – first as a board member and now as CEO,” Middleton shared in a message to AFL affiliates. “Quite simply, AFL would not be what it is today without organizations that believe in this mission and see the value of standing together.”

AFL is also looking ahead to the challenges and opportunities facing life-affirming organizations in the years to come. As access to abortion pills online has changed the landscape, AFL remains focused on helping its affiliates adapt through relevant training, resources, and support designed to help them reach women and families.

While the next 25 years may look different from the first, AFL’s commitment remains the same: to strengthen organizations, foster connection, and work toward a culture that values every human life.

As Alliance for Life enters its next chapter, the organization will continue seeking God’s wisdom and direction while working alongside its affiliates and partners to equip people, empower organizations, and engage communities toward a culture of LIFE.
