Project Nic’s Run for Shelter 5K Unites Community for Orphans

The sun will barely be up on September 6th, but you can bet O’Bannon Road in Garden City, Missouri, will already be buzzing. That’s because it’s almost time for the 6th Annual Project Nic “Run for Shelter” 5K—a morning where sneakers, laughter, and a few wagging tails come together for a cause that matters.
This isn’t your average run. Sure, there’s a $50 entry fee for runners and walkers, and yes, you’re more than welcome to bring your dog (leashed, of course). But what really sets this event apart is the community spirit—and the mission behind it. Project Nic, a nonprofit devoted to loving and supporting orphans from some of the world’s toughest backgrounds, relies on events like this to keep more than 250 kids clothed, fed, educated, and safe.
Don’t feel like running? Join the NO-K Team instead. For $60, you get a custom t-shirt, a front-row seat to the action, and the undeniable joy of watching other people sweat while you chow down on Mazzio’s Pizza.
The details: Gates open at 7:30 a.m., the run kicks off at 9:00, and everyone is welcome—whether you’re pounding the pavement or cheering from the sidelines. Every dollar raised goes straight to Project Nic’s shelters, helping kids not just survive, but thrive.

This isn’t just a race—it’s a chance to put love and justice into action, one step at a time.
