Thanksgiving Travel 2025: What Cities Top the List?

The Democrat government shutdown threatened to delay travel during the long Thanksgiving weekend. But now that it has ended and air traffic controllers are back on the job, many Americans plan to see the country and the world. Even as the weather threatens their plans.

New York City, with its Macy’s parade, remains the ultimate Thanksgiving destination for the fifth straight year, edging out busy cities in Seattle and Phoenix. Other sought-after Thanksgiving locales include Atlanta, Dallas and Los Angeles, while Orlando, Boston, Miami and Chicago round out the top 10, based on survey data from more than 1,200 Allianz customers.

Like New York City, Mexico remains a popular destination for Thanksgiving, with Cancun securing the top spot for the fifth straight year even with travel advisories issued over drug cartel activity. San Jose Del Cabo and Puerto Vallarta also remain among the top three, with country’s capital of Mexico City ranking eighth. Europe is another popular destination, with London ranking fourth and Paris coming in at number six. The sun-drenched Caribbean continues to be an in-demand escape for the holiday season, with Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. ranking fifth and countries and territories such as Jamaica, Aruba and Turks and Caicos cracking the top 10.
