The Global Orphan Project to Host “The BIG Event” to Combat Orphan Crisis

Breaking the orphan cycle through community, commerce, and Jesus

The Global Orphan Project (GO Project) will host its annual Gala, “The BIG Event,” on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts in Kansas City. GO Project seeks to break the orphan cycle by utilizing preventative platforming to stabilize families before breakdown occurs. As a social enterprise and parent organization, GO Project uses this event every year to celebrate the incredible work of its preventative platforms — CarePortal, GOEX, and Strong Family — in keeping families together with the help of local churches.

“The BIG Event is more than a fundraiser — it’s a celebration of hope, dignity, and the power of community,” said Joe Knitting, CEO of GO Project. “Each year, we gather to reflect on the stories of families overcoming tremendous challenges and rally together in our shared mission to break the orphan cycle through the power of community, commerce, and the love of Jesus.”

GO Project’s family of Preventative Platforms works together to create a comprehensive support system for families at risk. Each platform addresses different aspects of family stability, creating multiple layers of protection: CarePortal activates tech-driven community response; Strong Family offers a framework that provides long-term empowerment, moving families from survival to flourishing; and GOEX provides economic stability through the dignity of work.

Through GO Project’s Care-Sharing platform, CarePortal, a church stepped in to reunite a father and son. After the father’s release from incarceration, he was given a place to live by his employer, but it lacked basic furniture. Meanwhile, his son Caleb, who was in foster care, needed a new home. When a caseworker submitted a request on CarePortal, several churches responded by providing beds, a couch, a refrigerator, and more. Because of the church’s generosity, Caleb was able to move in and begin a new life with his dad.

The BIG Event celebrates stories like this, and the many strategic investors, advocates, and churches serving their communities. The BIG Event features a cocktail hour with live music, followed by a compelling program highlighting the transformative work of GO Project, CarePortal, GOEX, and Strong Family. Guests will hear firsthand accounts of how local churches strengthen and restore dignity to children and families globally. The evening will also include a special keynote and presentation of the Advocate of the Year Award.

Tickets are available online and include cocktails and gourmet hors d’oeuvres. Reserved cocktail tables are also available for groups of eight. If guests cannot attend the event, they can still donate here.
