As Los Angeles continues its recovery efforts from January’s devastating fires, Turning Point Ministries has not forgotten about wildfire victims in its own backyard in Southern California.
“We’re not a disaster relief organization,” founder David Jeremiah said. “There are good organizations meeting the immediate physical needs, but as a multimedia ministry Turning Point has a publishing arm, and we have Bibles in stock that we could share with the churches, Christian schools and individuals who lost so much.”
With over 16,000 structures destroyed and recovery efforts ongoing, Turning Point reached out to its partners, individual churches and school leaders in the Los Angeles area to offer support by providing Bibles to replace those lost in the fires. To date Turning Point has donated 2,468 Bibles and will continuing to provide Bibles to those rebuilding while supplies last.
In addition to supporting fire victims in Los Angeles, Turning Point has been celebrating the success of their partnership with the Wonder Project’s “House of David,” which has become one of Amazon Prime’s biggest hits. As companies such as Sony and Amazon begin taking on more faith and family values entertainment, it is important to encourage the broader faith-based community to support these projects, especially ones that hold true to the biblical narrative and historical documentation. Turning Point wants to be at the forefront of producing and promoting high-quality, Bible-focused content and entertainment.
Critics have praised the series for its authentic portrayal of biblical characters “deeply concerned with God’s intentions.” The exclusive preview event held by Turning Point allowed industry leaders, pastors and select members of the media to hear from Wonder Project executives and see how God is opening doors in the entertainment industry.
“We want people to be encouraged, excited and enthusiastic about programs like `House of David,'” said David Michael Jeremiah, president and CEO of Turning Point. “We want people to watch and then go back to their Bibles, reread the story and want to look for more biblical-based resources to grow in their knowledge and faith.”
