620,000 Bibles to Be Distributed to Prisoners Worldwide

Prison Fellowship International and Bible League International are teaming up to distribute 620,000 Bibles to prisoners in 20 countries over the next five years

“God’s word has the power to reach prisoners in their darkest moments with the light of Jesus Christ,” said Frank Lofaro, vice president, global impact, for Prison Fellowship. “Through this partnership, prisoners who come to know Jesus through our evidence-based, in-prison programs are equipped to grow in their faith through a Bible that they can understand and that speaks to their circumstances.”

Since 2019, this partnership has provided more than 570,000 Bibles in eight languages across more than 700 prison sites. Each Bible includes 52 studies tailored to the specific challenges of incarcerated individuals, helping them understand scripture in the context of their daily life.

“The Bible is not just a book; it is the living word of God,” said Jonathan Adams, senior vice president, program development, for Bible League International. “Every prisoner who receives one has the opportunity to encounter hope, forgiveness and transformation. By partnering with Prison Fellowship International, we serve some of the most marginalized people in the world with the eternal truth of scripture.”

The impact already is visible. Like Harrison in Kenya, a former Muslim who gave his life to Christ, many find that the Bible they receive becomes a lifeline to sustain their spiritual journey after the programs end. “Now, I disciple others with the knowledge I’ve gained,” Harrison said. “I have peace of mind and a joy that only comes from knowing Christ.”

Since 1979, Prison Fellowship International has helped prisoners experience transformation from the inside out through the power of the Gospel. Its mission is to transform the lives of prisoners, their families and victims through a global network of ministry partners.

Bible League international, founded in 1938, serves under-resourced local churches around the world, providing Bibles, scripture resources and training in local languages to transform lives through God’s word.
