From Fear to Faith: Maria’s Story
Parkville Women's Clinic Walks Along Side Women

Most clients who walk through the doors of Parkville Women’s Clinic are seen only once or twice. Maria’s journey was different. She returned five times—giving us the rare privilege of walking alongside her as she wrestled with one of the biggest decisions of her life.
Maria first came to confirm her pregnancy. Her plan was abortion, but as the nurse gently explained procedures and their possible impact on her relationship, she struggled to listen. Tears fell as she thought of John, her boyfriend of three years. The couple lives in his grandmother’s house, and Maria longs for stability. Unsure of what to do, she left with information about abortion, adoption, and resources for support, and agreed to return for another ultrasound.
At her second visit, Maria smiled when she saw the ultrasound images, but her heart remained undecided. Our advocate shared resources, and the nurse encouraged her to bring John next time.
Maria came alone again at her third appointment. She admitted she wanted to carry but feared her parents’ reaction, as well as how John’s family might respond. She was encouraged to share her news with her parents and to think through how she would feel if John pushed her toward abortion and their relationship ended afterward.
At her fourth visit, Maria still voiced fears—about money, housing, and her uncertain future. Yet she revealed she and John were leaning toward carrying.
Finally, at her fifth appointment, John joined her. Together, they saw their baby moving on the screen. Maria cried as John looked on in amazement at how much their child had grown. When abortion procedures were explained, both were visibly uncomfortable. John admitted their families strongly opposed abortion and would support them if they chose life.
In the closing conversation, the couple’s main concern was housing. They talked through options and resources with the team. Then Maria shared something even deeper—she wasn’t sure if Jesus was her Savior. With tears, she prayed to accept Christ that day.
By the end of that appointment, Maria and John leaned away from abortion and adoption, and toward parenting their baby. Our Resource Coordinator quickly connected them to housing options, and the couple left knowing they were not alone.
Maria’s story shows why Parkville Women’s Clinic exists. Most clients are seen only once or twice, but when God opens the door for us to walk longer alongside a young couple, lives are changed—not only for a baby, but for an entire family’s future.
