Holy Spirit Parenting Guidance from CeCe Winans

Singer CeCe Winans is one of the most acclaimed Christian singers of her generation. However, she considers parenting, not music, to be her most important mission field. “[Jesus] finished it on the cross — the availability of salvation — but he uses us and our children and our children’s children to continue to win the world to him,” she recently told CBN.
She cited Deuteronomy 6:6-7, which tells parents to “impress [the commandments] on your children.” Winans emphasized the need for parents to seek Holy Spirit parenting guidance in daily life, a theme echoed by many leaders in the Christian community.
But, like all parents, Winans said she has one regret. “The one thing I would do differently if I had the chance to go back and raise my children again would be to invite the Holy Spirit into every moment,” she said. “‘Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it.’ Allow them to see you pray — ‘Lord, give me wisdom on what to do about this.’ Invite him in more so that they can be used to following the Holy Spirit.”
She offered the same insights on TBN’s “Better Together” program. “Probably one of my only regrets in raising my kids, I did not consult the Holy Spirit enough on each one,” she said. “When you look back, it’s like, `man, if I would’ve just took out time and said Holy Spirit, what should I do here?’ We can’t allow even motherhood to get in the way of our time with the Lord.”
Her parents provided an example for her and her siblings to follow. “They didn’t just teach us the word; they lived it in front of us,” she said. “I would not be who I am today, strong in my faith, I would not without that family foundation, without them making us go to church, even when we didn’t want to.”
Winans said her parents “honored God.” “Because of that, I was able to be bold; I was never confused about what holiness looks like,” she said. “That helped me with peer pressure. It prepares your children to be who God has called them to be with no apologies. It’s through our boldness that God is glorified.”
The influence of the Holy Spirit in parenting and daily guidance is a recurring message among faith leaders. Recent discussions in Christian communities highlight how seeking wisdom and strength through the Holy Spirit supports families in modern challenges. The importance of prayer and spiritual mentorship for children is also echoed by many other voices in Christian media.
Winans’ perspective encourages families to prioritize faith, making the Holy Spirit an essential part of parenting guidance—a legacy she credits for her own strong foundation.
