Kay Arthur, Influential Bible Teacher and Author, Dies at 91
Franklin Graham says her ministry "touched the lives of millions"

Tributes are coming in for Kay Arthur, co-founder of Precept Ministries International and a revered Bible teacher, who died May 20, 2025, at age 91 in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Born in 1933, her passing marks the end of a remarkable career that shaped Christian education globally. Her ministry elevated Bible study as crucial to the health of the believer, once stating, “Most of the world around you doesn’t read the Bible. So…God gives the world a living epistle – you!”
“The impact of Kay Arthur on women in churches across the world is hard to overstate,” said Becky Loyd, vice president at Lifeway Christian Resources and former director of Lifeway Women. “She was a pioneer in teaching women to study the Bible on their own and providing the tools for deeper study of God’s Word. She was a hero to those of us who seek to serve Christian women and equip them for engaging God’s word.”
Arthur pioneered the inductive Bible study method, guiding tens of millions to engage deeply with Scripture. She authored over 100 books, including “Lord, I Need Grace to Make It Today”, and her “Precepts for Life” program reached 75 million homes across 30 countries, earning two Best Television Teaching Program awards, CBN News noted. Her work secured four Evangelical Christian Publishers Association Gold Medallion Awards and a National Religious Broadcasters Hall of Fame induction.
Arthur’s journey began in the 1960s, teaching small Bible studies with her husband, Jack, which grew into Precept Ministries, as shared on Precept USA’s Instagram. Her influence touched countless lives, with Beth Moore praising her devotion stated on X: “I’ve never known an individual more devoted to the Lord or to the tireless, faithful teaching of Scripture than Kay Arthur. “She is now at the feet of her Redeemer, looking up at the radiant face of the One she has loved with her whole being. Thank you, Kay. You were unmatched.””.
Franklin Graham called her “a great Bible teacher” whose work “touched the lives of millions”. James Robison of “Life Today” wrote, “Betty and I are grateful for the beautiful life and legacy of our friend Kay Arthur, who stepped into the arms of Jesus this morning”.
“I’ve never known an individual more devoted to the Lord or to the tireless, faithful teaching of Scripture than Kay Arthur,” fellow teacher Beth Moore.
Her passing during a week filled with graduations across the nation reminds many of her words to students at Liberty University in 2013. “I have come to tell you that I have a great burden on my heart and it is such a privilege to speak to you because of that burden. You can change the world if you are absolutely and totally sold out to God,” she said.
No official cause of death was disclosed, though Charisma Magazine reported Arthur battled Parkinson’s disease. Precept Ministries vowed to continue her mission, stating on Instagram that her legacy endures. Arthur is survived by her family, who requested privacy, per CBN News.
