For two decades, Parkville Women’s Clinic has been a beacon of hope, serving women, men, and families in our community with Christ-like compassion. As Executive Director Sonya Rice explains, “We meet them right where they are in life, not judging them on the chapter we walked in on.” Ciara’s story is just one example of the transformative journeys we are privileged to witness.
In the spring of 2023, Ciara walked through the doors of our clinic, seeking to confirm her pregnancy. It was a pivotal moment in her life. Overwhelmed by the news, she confided in us about her struggles: she had been battling addiction and depression, feeling as though she was spiraling down a path with no return. Her boyfriend at the time was unhappy about the pregnancy, adding another layer of uncertainty and fear to her already heavy heart.
Despite her challenges, Ciara demonstrated remarkable courage. She took the first steps toward reclaiming her life by entering rehab and seeking professional help for her mental health. Seeing her determination, our clinic stepped in to provide additional resources to support her healing journey.
After much reflection and prayer, Ciara made the brave decision to choose life for her child and pursued adoption. This decision, though difficult, was one she felt was rooted in love and hope for a better future for her baby. We stood by her every step of the way, offering encouragement and support as she navigated this transformative chapter of her life.
Fast forward to the fall of 2024, Ciara returned to our clinic with a new story to share. She was pregnant again, but this time, her circumstances were different. She came with a new partner, a man who shared her faith in God and her commitment to building a stable, loving home. Together, they expressed their desire to parent this child and shared how they had started attending a local church, finding strength and guidance in their renewed faith.
Our clinic was privileged to walk alongside Ciara and her partner during this new journey, providing resources, encouragement, and follow-up care. However, as life unfolded, they found parenting to be more challenging than they had anticipated. After much prayer and deliberation, they made the heartfelt decision to place their child for adoption, believing it to be in the best interest of the baby.
Ciara’s journey is one of resilience, growth, and faith. Her gratitude for our clinic’s unwavering support throughout these chapters of her life is a reminder of the profound impact compassion, care and hope can have.
This year alone, the clinic has touched over 1,000 lives through 15,000 interactions, including appointments, classes, and correspondence. The Fatherhood program has empowered 238 dads, while over 500 ultrasounds have been performed, leading 79% of clients to choose life.
All services are provided at no cost, including clinical pregnancy testing, limited OB ultrasounds, STI testing and treatment, abortion pill reversal, options consultations, adoption information, and female and male advocacy. The clinic also offers material resources, mentorship programs, community resources and parenting classes, ensuring comprehensive support for those facing unplanned pregnancies.
In 2024, Parkville Women’s Clinic celebrated 20 years of impact and launched construction on a new facility to expand their reach in Kansas City. Together, the clinic inspires families, transforming challenges into opportunities for hope and healing for generations to come.
