Show-Me…There is a Place…
In a single, unexpected instance a family can be thrown into a crisis: a car crash that kills both parents, an 80-year old grandma raising her grandchildren suffers a stroke, or a single mom with six children is diagnosed with stage-four cancer. What would you do if tomorrow you awoke to find that you no longer had the ability to take care of your children by yourself? Like the widow and orphan of Jesus’ day, you and your children now find yourself dependent solely on mercy of others.
In order that the children don’t become additional casualties, where can families turn when faced with a crisis? Costly private programs? Foster care? Is there another option? Is there a place with a Christ-centered option?
There is a place….
For over 50 years, Show-Me Christian Youth Home has served as an alternative to state-based foster care, all provided from a Christian worldview. At each of the 10 homes and two campuses located in Missouri, children of any age from across the country find a safe, stable, loving home and family, and ongoing community of support designed to help them overcome the struggles of their past and find success for their future.
With the guidance of professionals, a customized environment is created for each young life to thrive. Children have the opportunity to a self-paced education, professional counseling, therapeutic services, sports, the arts, and signature programs designed to develop the character and life skills they will need to become successful and productive adults. Children don’t “age out” of the Show-Me program, they “age-into” healthy adults. Going beyond the limits of traditional foster care, Show-Me continues to serve a bridge to adulthood by providing them with the necessary resources and support networks they need to make the transition.
There is a place….
…where children are free to explore the wonders of childhood in a safe and nurturing environment. Children leave behind the fear of abandonment and pain. Innocence is admired and valued instead of mocked and ridiculed. Laughter resounds, comfort persists. Fresh air, clean rooms, hearty meals, and caring parents await their arrival “home.” Prayers and encouragement are as common and refreshing as a summer breeze.
There is a place….
…where children find fresh new beginnings and a sense of belonging. There’s a safe place to land and learn after personal failures. They gain the ability to cope with their past and prepare for their future, turning the disappointments to stepping stones. The satisfaction of a good day’s work prepares them for tomorrow’s challenges. Children grow and mature and discover a clear path to become stable and successful.
There is a place….
…where children can count on a team of support to help them become the best they can be. Functional families deliver undeniable evidence of how the Christian family model produces stable adults. Responsibilities are taught, grace is realized. Children have opportunities to gain, not lose. The day they came to Show-Me becomes the beginning of the best days of their lives. Children discover a home and family for now and always.
There is a place….
…where children become thriving young adults. Stable young adults become responsible parents and well-equipped Kingdom workers. Businesses seek Show-Me kids due to their maturity, responsibility, and preparation for the future. Children learn to learn and are equipped to take on life’s challenges. “Followers” become “leaders” who mentor their peers toward a brighter future.
There is a place….
…where victims become victors. Children see themselves as God sees them and comprehend their value in light of who God made them to be. Jesus becomes real through authentic relationships with staff, volunteers and peers. A genuine, Christian community models the early church in coming together to compassionately meet a need – a testimony of what God is doing through His people.
There is a place….
…where the generational cycle-of-despair ends. Young men and women make vital contributions to society through the families they raise, the neighbors they serve, and the community in which they invest. Generations ponder, “Where would we be without Show-Me?” Parents and grandparents secure for their kids a better future than they can provide themselves because they know the course of a life can change the course of generations that follow.
As long as there are children who need a family, as long as there are young people struggling to break the cycle, as long as there are kids fighting the demons of their past and seeking a hope for their future…there will be a place called Show-Me Christian Youth Home.
