Gov. Parson puts out call for help from medical professionals

Missouri’s Governor Mike Parson on Monday put out a call for help from medical professionals across the state to treat COVID-19 patients.

Missouri received over 900 applications for the Disaster Medical Assistance Team. However Gov. Parson said more medical professionals are needed.

HR professionals and D-MAT experts are screening the applications.

Missouri Department of Public Safety Director Sandy Karsten said Missouri still needs more medical professionals to help in the fight against COVID-19.

“In Missouri, our curve is still climbing. So we need additional resources and personnel in this fight. I urge medical professionals to consider joining the MO M-MAT-1 team,” Karsten said.

MU Health Care infectious disease and critical care expert Dr. Stevan Whitt said social distancing has been effective in Missouri and is slowing the spread of new infections.

“The rate of new infections has leveled off across our state and across our region. Our hospitals are able to keep up with the needs of the seriously ill and we now have more people in the recovery phase than we have new infections,” Witt said.
