James Dobson Remembered for Impact on Faith and Family

Influential psychologist, author, and broadcaster Dr. James Dobson died on Thursday at age 89. Christian leaders across the nation are paying tribute to him and his lasting impact, not only on the church but on the nation.
“Dr. Dobson was a pioneer — a man of deep conviction whose voice shaped the way generations view faith, family and culture. His bold leadership, integrity and compassion helped equip countless families to thrive in a world of shifting values. He was a mentor, a counselor and a steady voice of truth in turbulent times.” — Gary Bauer, Dr. James Dobson Family Institute
“It has been one of the great honors of my life to know Dr. James Dobson. He was not afraid to bring his faith into the public sphere for God’s purposes. He has finished the race, to God’s glory. Hallelujah! May we all follow in his footsteps.” — Eric Metaxas, author
“As a trusted advocate for faith, family and biblical values, Dr. Dobson’s legacy is unmatched, and his life’s work continues to shape our nation. With unwavering conviction, he championed the sanctity of marriage, the sanctity of life and the importance of parental rights, principles woven into the DNA of our movement.” — Craig DeRoche, Family Policy Alliance,
“I knew James very well, and I can tell you he was a true man of God who lived a life of integrity. I’ll never forget that after our son Christopher went to heaven 17 years ago, Dr. Dobson personally called us and spent a great deal of time ministering to our whole family. He and his devoted wife Shirley shared such a beautiful marriage, one that we would all aspire to.
His life and ministry touched millions as he faithfully taught us how to build godly families. He was a legend, a treasure to the church, and he will be greatly missed.” — Pastor Greg Laurie, Harvest Fellowship
“He was known to shed tears upon hearing of an unknown family’s loss of a child,. Now, it is our turn to weep/ He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and a friend to millions of listeners and readers around the world. Dr. Dobson’s presence will be sorely missed, but we rejoice in the knowledge that he is now joyfully in the presence of the God he served.” — John Daly, Focus on the Family
“Very sad about the passing of Dr. Dobson. He graciously gave me many opportunities to share stories about my music, as well as inviting Mary Beth and me to share about our adoption journey with listeners on his radio programs several times. He was always very kind, thoughtful and encouraging. I’ll always remember a meeting with him in his office at Focus On The Family before one of our interviews…I was in the process of writing songs for a new album and asked him what message he believed young people needed to hear most. He said they just needed to know how much God loves & treasures them…I left that meeting and wrote a song called “Treasure of You”. Praying for comfort and peace for the Dobson family.” –Steven Curtis Chapman
