Kendrick Brothers Bring ‘Flywheel’ Movie to U.S. Theaters

The Kendrick brothers’ Flywheel: Ignition of the Soul, a Brazilian reimagining of their 2003 debut film, opens in U.S. theaters Friday, Oct. 16. Filmed in Portuguese in Rio de Janeiro with a Brazilian cast and crew, the movie will be dubbed in English for U.S. audiences, according to the film’s official website.

The project grew out of the brothers’ work with aspiring Christian filmmakers in Brazil. Alex Kendrick told The Christian Post that he and Stephen traveled there to train local filmmakers, who later asked to collaborate on a movie. Reflecting on the original Flywheel, Kendrick said, “We just had a good story.” He said the new production gave the brothers a chance to “invest in young Christian filmmakers in another country in their own language.”

Affirm Films announced the English-language voice cast for the U.S. release: Brett Varvel (“Disciples in the Moonlight”), Masey McLain (“The Baxters”), Todd Terry (“Vindication”) and Lara Silva (“The Chosen”).

At the center of Flywheel is Noah Silva, a successful used-car salesman whose pursuit of success strains his relationships with his family. As his life begins to unravel, he must face the consequences of his choices and decide whether to change how he runs his business and treats the people around him.

The film is directed by Alessandro Barros and written by Alex Kendrick. It stars Mario Bregieira, Pérola Faria, Guilherme Tavares, Felipe Folgosi, Adriano Canindé and Elizeu Rodrigues. Mark Miller, Daniel Friesen and Wiltonauar Moura are producers. Stephen Kendrick, Alex Kendrick, Jim McBride and Ygor Siqueira are executive producers.

David C Cook announced an eight-week Bible study written by Alex and Stephen Kendrick to accompany the film. Crosswalk reported that the study was scheduled for release Oct. 6.

The film opens in U.S. theaters Oct. 16. The Numbers lists a Nov. 12 release date in Brazil.

I removed the original praise of the voice cast and the “major milestone” language, and replaced them with background from Kendrick’s interview. I also narrowed the overseas release reference to Brazil because I found a specific release date there, but no confirmed date for Latin America as a whole.
