The intersection of AI and biblical study might seem unlikely. Yet in 2025, this convergence is reshaping how millions of people engage with scripture, driven by two pioneering platforms with distinct approaches.
Romanian entrepreneurs Laurențiu Bălașa and Marius Iordache launched BibleChat.ai in 2023, marking the first major step in this direction. Their vision of AI-assisted biblical study resonated immediately, with the platform reaching ten million users within its first year.
Chase Cappo, BibleChat.ai’s co-founder, addresses common skepticism about mixing faith with artificial intelligence. “AI manifests technology naturally,” he notes, adding that “no matter what the venue—if you’re reading in a physical Bible or engaging through AI—what matters is connecting with Scripture.”
In a 2023 interview with Metro Voice, Cappo shared that the platform is reaching people with deep questions about faith and their own part in the world. “They’re asking questions that they’re afraid to ask others,” he said.
The landscape shifted again when Gold Coast Australia developer Leio McLaren unveiled Bible.ai in February 2025. After two years of development, his team introduced voice interaction capabilities—a feature that distinguished it sharply from existing platforms.
McLaren loves technology deeply, but his faith drives the project’s vision. His platform became the first voice platform specifically designed for theological study, marking a significant departure from traditional approaches.
The distinctions between these platforms reveal their complementary roles in the digital faith landscape. BibleChat.ai emphasizes accessibility through its text-based interface, offering always there 24/7 support across multiple translations—ESV, NIV, and NKJV among them. Their recent €13.4 million Series A funding round underscores the platform’s impact and potential.
Bible.ai, meanwhile, prioritizes voice interaction. The platform’s theological integrity remains central to its mission, enabling users to integrate scripture study seamlessly into their daily routines.
Reflecting on their journey, Bălașa recently acknowledged the collaborative effort behind their success. “Thank my team,” he said following their latest funding announcement, highlighting the collective work that transformed a novel concept into a global platform.
The emergence of these AI-powered biblical study tools signals a significant shift in religious technology. While BibleChat.ai established the foundational framework for AI-assisted scripture study, Bible.ai’s voice-first approach represents the next evolution. Together, these platforms are pioneering new ways for people to explore and understand ancient texts through modern technology.
