Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker, a conservative Catholic, visited President Donald Trump in the White House last week. A photo posted by White House Communications Adviser Margo Martin shows Butker standing in the Oval Office with Trump with the caption, “The GOAT of kicking meets the GOAT of presidents.”
Butker has long been a champion for the sanctity of life, as Metro Voice News has documented through his public statements.
“I’m supporting the president that’s going to be the most pro-life president, and I think Donald Trump is the most pro-life president,” he said last fall. “That’s a topic that is the most crucial topic for me. I want us to be fighting for the most vulnerable, fighting for the unborn, and that’s what we should prioritize.”
Butker wore a tie that had “Vulnerari Praesidio” in cursive during the team’s Super Bowl title visit to the Biden White House in 2023, Fox News reported. It’s a Latin term that translates to “Protect the most vulnerable.” He also wore a gold pin representing the size of a 10-week-old baby’s feet.
Last fall, he started a political action committee with the goal of motivating Christian voters to hit the polls to protect Christian values at the ballot box, according to Metro Voice News. Butker appeared on the campaign trail for Sen. Josh Hawley, a Missouri Republican.
“Athletes are citizens like the rest of us — people who have political views and want to voice those, want to support those, want to push for policies and candidates,” he said, as reported by Washington Times. “In totality, I think it’s a good thing that we have people who are willing to be involved, active and engaged. There are going to be athletes you agree with and disagree with, but ultimately they are citizens as well.”
Butker made national headlines last summer when he delivered the commencement address at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kans. His speech touched on several topics, including COVID, President Joe Biden’s policies, pride month and the role of women and men in society. He shared with the graduates. specifically the women in attendance, how his wife has felt most fulfilled in her life being a homemaker.
