Deion Sanders Overcomes Bladder Cancer With Faith and Prayer
Deion Sanders, former sports start and current head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes football team, thanked God and his doctors after revealing that he recently had his bladder removed after a tumor was discovered.
“God is so good,” he said at a news conference. “I never once through this whole journey said, ‘God, why me?’’ Because I would have to say, ‘God, why did you sit me up here in front of these wonderful people? Why did you give me the position of the head football coach of this prestigious university? Why did you allow me to father five wonderful kids? Why did you give me these relationships with these wonderful people?”
Dr. Janet Kukreja, director of urological oncology at University of Colorado Cancer Center, said Sanders is now cancer-free. “I am pleased to report that the results from the surgeries are that he is cured from the cancer,” she said.
Sanders said he relied on prayer throughout his cancer journey.

“I said, ‘Lord, whatever it is that you’re doing, let me know what it is, so I could expedite the process,” he said. “`Because I know you got me. I’ve seen you have my back. I’ve seen you there in the midst of storms.”
Cancer has touched or will touch everyone at some point, Sanders said. “Everybody in this room, I guarantee you, have been affected by that C-word somewhere in your life — some parents, some friends, some loved ones — somebody has been affected or infected,” he said.
Sanders compared his personal challenges to those faced by Job. “The devil had to ask God, ‘Have you considered my servant Prime (a nickname for Sanders):?’” he said. “`I know he gonna magnify me. I know he gonna glorify me’ – and that’s what has transpired.”
Sanders hopes to inspire other people who are battling cancer. ““When we hear that word, it’s usually a life sentence attached to it,” he said. “But not this time. Not this time,, because God got me.”
