Gov. Colyer and fitness guru Jake Steinfeld open new DON’T QUIT! Fitness Centers at three Kansas schools

TOPEKA – Governor Jeff Colyer joined Jake Steinfeld, Chairman of the National Foundation for the Governors’ Fitness Councils (NFGFC), Wednesday, to cut the ribbon on the newly gifted “$100,000 DON’T QUIT! Fitness Center at Jardine Middle School in Topeka. Jardine was one of three schools to receive the generous donation awarded by NFGFC along with Lincoln Elementary School in Fredonia and Uniontown USD 235 in Uniontown whose ribbon cuttings were held Thursday.

“As a doctor, I understand the benefits living a healthy lifestyle can have on kids as they grow. It instills confidence and self-esteem, as well as helps improve mental health,” said Governor Jeff Colyer, M.D. “I appreciate Jake Steinfeld and the National Foundation for Governors’ Fitness Councils for bringing the DON’T QUIT! Fitness Campaign to the great state of Kansas. This gift will have a lasting impact on the kids and their communities for years to come.”

All public schools in Kansas were given the opportunity to apply for one of the three fitness centers, paid for by a combination of public and private sponsorships from Coca Cola, Amerigroup Foundation, Nike, and Wheels Up. Schools were selected in the spring of 2018 and the fitness centers were constructed over the summer.

“Obesity is America’s arch enemy,” said Jake Steinfeld “I knew it would take an army of leaders to fight this disease head on. I was thrilled when Governor Colyer joined our efforts to help raise awareness of childhood obesity and to help put a stop to it in Kansas. The National Foundation is really excited to award Lincoln Elementary, Uniontown USD 235 and Jardine Middle school with new fitness centers that will have a lasting impact on kids and their community now, and well into their futures!”
