Here’s what to do over Labor Day Weekend in Kansas City

Now that the heatwave has ended, Kansan Citians are looking forward to fall activities. Although the season officially is several weeks away, the Labor Day weekend is packed with family fun.

Fox 4 News reported on several of the local activities that are on tap:           

  • The Kansas City Irish Fest will take place from Friday through Sunday at Crown Center. The event will consist of stages with Irish music and dance, menus of traditional Irish and Scottish dining and a plethora of cultural activities and programs for the entire family.
  • Santa-Cali-Gon Days returns to Independence for the 83rd straight year on Friday through Monday. It will include live entertainment, food, games, rides and plenty of other activities.
  • The new Sobela Ocean Aquarium at the Kansas City Zoo will officially open on Friday. The aquarium will feature six distinct habitats with a multitude of sea life. Those habitats include a warm-water shore, mangrove forests, sandy shores, tropical lagoons, coral reefs and a cold-water rocky shore. It will be an exciting new experience for people of all ages.
  • The Kansas City Renaissance Festival will take place in Bonner Springs from September to October 15 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays (also open on Labor Day and Columbus Day). The medieval-based festival will include daily jousts, food, a marketplace, family-friendly activities and more.
  • Spider-man: Beyond Amazing –The Exhibition continues at Union Station. Fans can take a deep dive into the web-flinging superhero who originated in 1962. It will include original art, interactive displays, photo-ops and more.
  • The Kansas City Royals will have a homestand throughout Labor Day weekend, including games against the Boston Red Sox from Friday through Sunday and a matchup against division rival Chicago White Sox on Labor Day.
  • The Kansas City Monarchs will play seven straight games Legends Field in Kansas City, Kan., through Labor Day.
